Obama's birth certificate (Uses Snopes to prove "authenticity")
The Carroll County Examiner ^ | December 7, 2009 | David Thornton

A rumor that won’t die is the myth that Barack Obama’s birth certificate is fake. There are different theories on where Obama was born, if he was not born in Hawaii as he claims. A prevailing belief is that he was born in Kenya, and as a native Kenyan, is not eligible to be President of the United States. Some have also claimed that his full name includes the name “Mohammed,” adding to speculation that Obama is a secret Muslim.

At this point, mountains of evidence are in and they all point to the fact that Barack Obama is a natural born citizen of the United States. As far back as July 2008, Obama had released a copy of his birth certificate. Obama had to release the birth certificate himself because in Hawaii, birth certificates are not public documents and must be requested by the family. Obama’s birth certificate can viewed here.

Almost immediately, the certificate came under attack due to the lack of an embossed seal and signature. The answer to that challenge is that in Hawaii, the seal and signature are on the back of the certificate. The political fact-checkers at Politifact.com emailed the copy of the certificate released by Obama to the Hawaii Department of Health. They were told by a spokesman that the copy was a valid Hawaii birth certificate. The name on the certificate is Barack Hussein Obama II.

According to Snopes.Com, Hawaiian government officials have vouched for the authenticity of Obama’s birth certificate twice; once in October 2008 and again in July 2009. Additionally, Snopes also provides the testimony of a Hawaiian school teacher who actually spoke with the obstetrician that delivered the baby Barack.

Politifact also checked Obama’s other public domain records. These other records included his marriage certificate from Cook County, Illinois, his driver’s license records in Illinois, and his attorney registration and public disciplinary record from Illinois. All show that his name is Barack Hussein Obama. He also has no moving violations and has not been disciplined as an attorney.

If that were not enough, Obama’s birth announcements can be seen in both Honolulu newspapers. The Honolulu Advertiser and the Honolulu Star Bulletin both record the birth of Barack Hussein Obama on August 4, 1961. The newspaper announcements can be seen here.

In August 2009, a birth certificate surfaced that purported to show that Barack Obama was born in Kenya. This birth certificate was quickly revealed to be a forgery. Among the tell-tale mistakes on the certificate are the phrase “Republic of Kenya,” which did not exist at the time, an incorrect age for Obama’s father, and the claim that Barack Jr. was born in Mombasa, which was located far from where Obama Sr. lived. In fact, Mombasa was so far from where Obama lived that it was not even part of Kenya at the time; it was actually then a part a part of Zanzibar.

A further claim is that US law at the time specified that if only one parent was a US citizen, to pass citizenship along to the child, that parent must have been a US citizen “for at least ten years, at least five of which had to be after the age of 16” [citation]. The claim is that since Obama’s mother was 18 at the time of his birth, she does not meet the requirement to pass along citizenship to Barack Jr. According to Snopes, this law applied only to children born to US citizens outside the US. Since the evidence is that Obama was born in Hawaii, this claim is moot.

There is also the claim that Obama’s Kenyan grandmother claimed to be present at his birth. Since she had never left Kenya, the implication is that Obama must have been born in Kenya. When the entire transcript is reviewed, it seems that there was confusion over the word “present” since Mrs. Obama did not speak English and was relying on a translator. Throughout the conversation, she continues to claim that Obama was born in Hawaii.

Finally, there have been two lawsuits regarding Obama’s birth certificate and citizenship. Suits filed by Philip Berg and Alan Keyes were dismissed as frivolous and without merit. The Supreme Court declined to hear the case.

While we can easily see that Obama’s does not and has never included the name “Mohammed,” it is not easy to see what is in Obama’s heart. Claims that Obama is a closet Muslim are not easily proved nor disproved. What can be shown is that Obama has long been a member of a Christian church, although one of a far left denomination. Obama’s family heritage includes many links to Islam so it is understandable that he would have sympathy for Muslims around the world. However, neither being a Muslim nor having sympathy for Muslims would be disqualifying for a president.

After having President Obama lead the United States for almost a year, it is easy to understand why wishful thinking could lead people to grasp at straws for reasons why he could not be president. Nevertheless, the evidence is overwhelming that Barack Hussein Obama II is a natural born citizen of the United States, having been born in a Honolulu hospital. To believe otherwise requires belief in a massive conspiracy that includes Obama’s entire family, the Hawaii Department of Health, his birth doctor, and countless others.

It makes more sense to accept the reality of Obama’s citizenship and fight him on the issues. His foreign policy favors dictators and terrorists over democracy. His domestic policy is built on unsustainable spending that must surely be followed by economy-killing taxes and inflation. To effectively fight his policies, Obama’s opponents must ground themselves in reality and facts, which can easily illustrate that Obama’s policies are all wrong for America.

I have a question: HEY GLENN BECK -- you talk about "watching the other hand" when it comes to the way our government is turning into a quasi-dictatorship, & I agree w/ you completely.

But what about yourself? Why are you not willing to bring up this issue of whether or not Obama is legally eligible to serve as POTUS?

Isn't it time for YOU to ask the question, "WHERE'S THE BIRTH CERTIFICATE?", Glenn?

After wild speculation and logical fallacies, it’s pretty much all they have left in the tank.

I won’t deny that the question whether Barack Obama is a natural born American citizen is extremely important and that I can understand why so many are worked up about it. That said, I think many lose sight of the fact that it’s all speculation and it’s not even speculation that’s bought into universally by all conservatives.

It’s been said by a couple others on this thread and I think it bears repeating. Pouncing on this issue at this point in time is strongly hurting our ability to deal with and gain public support on other issues. People who might otherwise be inclined to take our side on pressing issues like the Health Care bill take a look at our focus upon this Birth Certificate matter and write us off as kooks. That is dangerous. We’re pushing an issue that, while important, has no credibility among the majority of the American people and doing damage to our ability to advance reasonable positions on vital pressing issues where we really do have the opportunity to swing public opinion.

After President Bush was elected, one of the dumbest things that the Dems did was to continue blasting away at the Florida recounts and the election results. While they focused on that, President Bush and Congressional Republicans simply kept pushing forward with their agenda, safely trusting that Dems were looking nutty to most people. We need to be careful because we are doing the same thing. We’ll gain far more ground by focusing on matters at hand and gaining momentum and credibility than we will by focusing on an issue most people dismiss out of hand.

In June, 2008, after viewing the Certification of Live Birth, provided on Obama’s Fight the Smears website, Janice Okubo, of the Hawaii Health Department stated, “I don’t know that it’s possible for us to even say beyond a doubt what the image on the site represents.”
http://www.politifact.com/truth-o-meter/article/2008/jun/27/obamas-birth-certificate-part-ii/

It should be noted that this statement is found in the same article that the liberal Snopes uses as proof that Hawaii verified Obama’s Certification of Live Birth as being genuine, and was Okubo’s final word on the matter. Hawaii will not even state that they issued the document to Obama. It should also be noted that the State of Hawaii routinely issues COLBs to children born OUTSIDE of the United States, when their birth is registered with that State. When the birth is registered, a birth announcement is placed in the newspapers-so neither the COLB or the Newspaper announcements are proof that Obama was born in Hawaii. It is true that Fukino stated that vital records indicate that Obama was born in Hawaii, but it is illegal for her to make such a statement, if she was referencing birth records, so it is quite possible that she was only getting that information from the letter that Obama sent to the hospital during their Centennial celebrations, claiming he was born there. At any rate, we are being asked to accept the word of one Obama supporter, who will provide no documents to back up her claim.

However, on July 27, 2009, Janice Okubo’s boss, Dr. Chiyome Fukino, Director of the Hawaii Health Department issued the following statement: “I, Dr. Chiyome Fukino, director of the Hawaii State Department of Health, have seen the original vital records maintained on file by the Hawaii State Department of Health verifying Barack Hussein Obama was born in Hawaii and is a natural-born American citizen. I have nothing further to add to this statement or my original statement issued in October 2008 over eight months ago....”

FWIW.

I am indebted to "A Candid Blogger" who deals with the person who verified the Honolulu birth of the now President. They use the term "senseless rantings of the Right Wing" In the rebuttal to any "birthers" . Herewith:

.

Person is Barbara Nelson of Kenmore, a former school teacher. She remembered 46 years or so, back in time.
Obstetrician was Dr Rodney West- who quipped he had delivered a baby of Stanley. (Physician, now deceased).
Statement of Barbara.

"I penned the name on a napkin"

- of interest to her father, also called Stanley, She sent the name to him. It stuck in her mind, because the father of the baby "was the first black student at the University of Hawaii".

I believe the doctor lived until he was 98 years old.

To update this account.

In further inquiries, Barbara said she really did not mean that HE delivered the child Obama. Merely that he mentioned the knowledge of such a name of the mother and child of a black student.

Heralded as a solid rebuttal to any doubts about the birth place of Barack Obama.

On the other hand it may be the obvious answer that he and his campaign were fraudulent from the outset. Obviouisly that does not seem to you worthy of concern.

But if he’s just an inelible fraud, that’s OK?

The simple question is if the BC is legit, why all the effort and expense to block access and hide it?

That, to me, is the $64,000 question. Even if he IS a natural born citizen, he's hiding SOMETHING. And there's nothing "kooky" about asking that question.

This may be the start of another Coordinated Defense of Obo and eligibility. Several months ago, there was a wave of attacks across the US against birthers in all the major news outlets with the same talking points. I saw a similar article on FR linked to Florida Times Union.

Its not illegal if Obama gave her permission to answer that specific and limited question. Under Hawaii statutues any person can waive their own rights to the confidentiality of their own vital records.
Another legal possiblity is that Obama’s own release of the information on his short form COLB allowed Fukino to confirm that information with regard to the Constitutional requirements to run for President under Article 2, Section 1, Clause 4: 35 years of age and birth inside the United States.

The state of Hawaii Health Department spokesperson, Janice Okubo said that Dr. Fukino’s statement was reviewed by the Attorney General’s office before she made it so obviously they checked the legal issues involved in releasing both of Dr. Fukino’s statements, the one in October of 2008 and the follow up statement in July of 2009.
There is no evidence that Dr. Fukino is an Obama supporter. She is an appointee of Governor Linda Lingle, a Republican who endorsed John McCain and spoke at the Republican National Convention.
The Attorney General of Hawaii Mark Bennett who is also a Republican has the statuatory authority to seek a subpoena for Obama’s long form, original, vault copy birth records.
