No coffee holder. Forget it!
Santa is bringing me a Springfield Armory XD 40 caliber pistol. Our grown kids are getting shotguns for home defense and trap shooting (2 barrels). Even our 3-year-old granddaughter is getting a pink camo pop gun. I expect it may be “forgotten” when they leave our house because it’s quite noisy. :)
If you do get a center fire .22 save all your brass. Put it into sanwhich bags and hold onto the cartridge cases. You may need them in the future or you my decide to start reloading at some point and you will have a great supply of the most expensive part of the round.
Semi autos take rounds that have minimum pressures and can be somewhat fairly limited in the bullet that they can load.
Single shots will take anything you put in the breech.

I have the flame thrower covered.
Indeed. My wife bought me a shiny new rifle for Christmas.
“Just can’t let this pass. If you can’t feed anything( cept maybe a wadcutter type round), you need ramp work. Flat nose should work along with round nose.”
LOL... “Wadcutters”... “flat nose”... we’re talking .223... as in a RIFLE!! A gas-operated RIFLE. I was not talking about handguns, since the poster I replied to was talking about a RIFLE CALIBER most commonly used in the AR-15.
“Having said all that, if you cast your own .223, then it must be loaded to sub sonic levels to keep leadding down.”
Which is unlikely to cycle the action, so you aren’t feeding, hence “autoloaders are not suited to cast rounds”. Like I said. The weapon would short stroke, at best, and would have very little range.
(Wipes away a tear.)
“You may have to play around with the bullet seating but many autoloaders are fed a diet of reloaded rounds for their entire life and they do quite well.”
Reloaded rounds, yes. Cast bullets, no.

Prvi Partizan 5.56 FMJ BT 50 cents per round. Milspec M193.
Ditto on the Marlin, but I found the lever action to be more accurate (using identical scopes).
Glock 31 (that’s right, .45 ACP...) with tritium sights, and at least six spare mags.
We just signed DS1 up for 4-H shooting sports. I think (hope) we will all enjoy this and learn a lot.
I got mine on sale in October for a very nice price. I've really enjoyed it.
I’ve been shooting hubby’s XDM but it’s too big for my hand, so I’m getting my own XD! Can’t wait. I love how smooth the trigger is and how accurately it shoots.
...probably the best and most accurate .22 rimfire rifles you can get for the money.

The centerfire rifles are quite a bit more expensive (below). As for ammunition, though, with enough study, you can reload for just about anything. Yes...with cast bullets and for long ranges, too, including .223. But it takes a lot of study, practice, and always, safety. Read some of the handloading discussion boards, if you’re interested in that.

Be sure to get at least a couple of reloading manuals and a chronograph, if you go into handloading, though.
