There is currently a move underway to discredit Mike Huckabee over the rightful pardoning of a then 16 year old who had been sentenced to 108 years on robbery charges. I make this statement as someone who fully supports the death penalty for murderers and for child rapists, but also as someone who recognizes that getting tough on crime means fostering sensible rehabilitation, not turning first time offenders into violent career criminals.
Yes, Governor Huckabee pardoned more people than most governors do. Thats because Gov. Huckabee isnt thoughtless, callous or cruel and recognizes that public service actually entails service to the public. Sentencing a 16 year old to months of hard labor generally serves as the greatest deterrent (except in cases of murder and the like). By contrast, sentencing a teen to years in prison has almost inevitably bred nothing more than a violent menaces to society.

Read the article. It may start making sense to you - the line you quoted in particular.
There you go again. You call him a “teen burglar” when he was guilty of multiple aggravated assaults. You are incapable of being honest.
It is not up to me or anyone else on this thread to research your assertions. It is a long standing FR tradition that if someone asks for a source cite for an assertion it is up to the OP to provide. Common courtesy demands it too.
Your rants and accusations are predictable, sad and boring. If you’re referring to his blow up in court, as a 17 year old who was facing a life sentence, and you believe that any of his record warrants 108 years (parole is not certain) or even 26, then you’re off base.
Any other nonsensical parsings to divert from the actual issue?
No one’s forcing you to read up on anything. Logic would dictate that one should do so instead of spouting absurdities - but you’re free to continue your entertaining twists and clownish assertions.
I’ll save you the trouble of responding.
- Yomin, you lie!
There. I responded for you. Now have a good night.
I appreciate that you have a passion for reforming sentencing but this is a really strange case to choose for advancing your agenda.
Huckabee’s decision to help put a lunatic back out on the streets clearly did not work out very well.
In hindsight, no matter the reason for commutation of this criminal, we all can clearly see that it was the wrong thing to do.
You are also a drama queen.
Oh, BTW, that is another of your lies. I have never said that on this thread or anywhere else.
I cannot disagree with this statement more. The purpose of the store owner's stocking up is not to hold merchandise - it is to sell it at the highest price supported by the market. Under your statement, the store owner can either sell at a below-market price, or they can hold the merchandise until the price goes down.
Remember that the "gouge" is the real market price. If the merchandise is too high priced, the merchandise won't sell.
Gov. Jeb Bush set strict anti-gouging policies and not one conservative legislator ever objected.
I was under the impression I was discussing my own personal opinion. I cannot answer for anyone else's mind - I have enough trouble with my own. (LOL)
Just as I find it objectionable for everyone to pile on Huckabee for doing what most governors would have done (and what the trial judge would have done), I also find the blame assigned to Huckabee over price gouging measures to be unwarranted if every other governor gets a pass for doing the exact same thing.
In your article, you highlighted the pattern of Huckabee granting clemency at a rate higher than average. In fact, that was a badge of honor, unless I have completely misread your words.
But now you wish to discuss it in terms of equivalence to "every other governor". These two positions are wildly inconsistent. Either Huck is more prolifically clement than others or not. If he is, then the probability of a decision ending badly (note: I did NOT say a bad decision) is significantly increased.
Lastly, I must apologize for my taunting tone from last night. While I strongly disagree with many of your opinions, I could have expressed my disagreement more eloquently.
I suppose my coarser nature sometimes gets in the way, like most men (and women).
“Was Huckabee freeing murderers or are you just having fun blaming him...”
It brings me no fun to criticize someone that I once respected.
Mr. Clemmons was a violent felon who committed:
- three assaults/robberies
- three burglaries
- a couple of weapons charges
over a course, from what I've read, of seven months. While incarcerated, he committed or attempted to commit at least three more violent crimes on three separate occasions.
A total of 26 years incarceration for the above seems reasonable, even a little on the light side.
Eleven years was a travesty of justice.
Considering his record, it wasn't too tough to figure out that Mr. Clemmons, released too soon, might likely commit more violent crimes. Someone like this should be incarcerated at least until age 50, perhaps 60 or 70. That violent rage runs deep, and is not usually spent before the latter part of middle age.
“I agree with the rest of what you say and yes, we do have a right to live free of murderers, attempted murderers and child rapists.”
That's not what I said. You speak falsely again.
We have a right to be free from VIOLENT OFFENDERS, of which Mr. Clemmons was one.
“That doesnt mean that throwing the key away at teen burglars who were neither murderers or attempted murderers at the time is a sound policy or even a humane one.”
If all Mr. Clemmons had been guilty of was a few burglaries, then 15 years or so would have been an appropriate sentence. But he beat at least three people. To leave that out is to dissemble badly. You are clearly from the Michael Dukakis wing of the Republican Party, shading the truth in order to coddle violent criminals.
It is a bald-faced lie to say that he was sentenced to 108 years for a few burglaries. He was effectively sentenced to 26 years in prison for THREE VIOLENT OFFENSES and a series of other felonies.
For a three-time (at least) violent offender, with multiple burglaries, weapons charges, and violent incidents while in prison, 26 years years was a light sentence.

Excellent post! Thank you! It exposes many lies!
Because it still makes no sense to me. Just because you, Yomin Posetelnik says so doesn't matter to me. Nor do a bunch of loonies who may be light on sentences ....I think if you start of life of crime early then you face jail. So be it if it is a long time. Study & make your life better for when you do get out. If you do get out.. I told you some people are just born bad or choose to be bad. Why does the general public have to suffer because of them? Are you trying to pull the race card here & tell me black youths are going to turn into radical islamics in jail? So we better fear that & let them out asap? I am not going to change my mind & let would be terrorists out of jail lol. Now you have me thinking harsh sentences are even better. Keep them in jail as now they are a bigger threat. Many people get religion in jail & sadly most of the time it is BS. I've known a few myself who played that card...
If I want to criticize Huckabee I will. Funny I don't recall doing so. I think the system is flawed. I am still waiting for your comment on Shasta Groene & Joseph Duncan . Was Duncan going to turn into a radical islamic if he wasn't let out of jail?
You really ought to stop with insulting FReepers who it is clear you dislike. You seem to be a troll for Huckabee. I didn't like it when I heard he pardoned so many criminals back when he was running. Now I see I was right in questioning it. You don't need to reply to me. I am done with this as I can see that in your mind you are never wrong. I still think you aren't fit to be a dog catcher by the way...Your state would have rabid dogs running loose. Have a nice day.
I think you should start a club of some sorts. It can be the “Yu Ly Club” and hold meetings every July.
The purpose can be to expose as liars all who disagree with you or who think that 108 years for a teen burglar is overkill, even if he did punch another teen a few years his junior in the mouth (remember, parole is not automatic - and yes, I know, “that’s another lie!”
You should also take to writing books. The world may have had Einstein, Plato and other philosophers, but none so unique and celebratory as yourself. You can have an intro by TigersEye and an epilogue by his buddy with the long username. Just a thought from an admitted Mike Dukakis Republican, bleeding heart moron liar.
Now say: “Thank you Mike Dukakis Republican, bleeding heart moron liar.”
You’re welcome.
You’re comparing child rapists and murderers to someone who was not one at the time. There is no comparison and we can’t go after people for what they “might” do without endangering a large portion of society or trampling on any sense of justice or liberty.
What in pre-2000 do you find in Clemmons’ record that warrants a sentence of 108 years? Parole is not automatic, but have it your way: What in pre-2000 do you find in Clemmons’ record that warrants a sentence of even 26 years? Burglaries? Punching a kid who was a few years younger? No matter what, the sentence was outrageous for the crimes committed.
I think that this thread has petered out because no one takes you seriously anymore.

I strongly disagree on price gouging, but I respect your point of view. My only point about Jeb Bush is that most if not all governors take my view on it, as do most people. There are some regulatory measures that need to be in place (free markets, to most, need to be regulated against cheating) and anti-gouging laws, I believe, should be one of them. You’ll contend that the owner should set the price, but when he’s doing so temporarily to profit from a storm, most don’t consider that to be fair game and I agree.
I understand your side - that the owner owns the stuff and he should be able to set any price. But you admit that it’s not just Huckabee who disagrees with that viewpoint.
Huckabee did issue more commutations than most governors and I agree that the system he put in place (allowing objections, having his staff vet the application, etc.) is admirable and brought balance to the corrections system. But in this case I think most governors would have done the same thing. That was my point about most governors.
We both got heated. No problem. I’m still on this thread with TigerEyes because I need debate practice and to make sure I can articulate my beliefs as best as possible (and if I thought his arguments had merit, I’d concede). But your posts are a pleasure to respond to.
I told you about Duncan because had a judge done the correct thing & kept this monster in jail instead of bailing him out he wouldn't have raped & killed. He too was a criminal by choice as a teenager.
We all make choices in our lives Yomin. We have to live with that & what the result of those choices are. To say he became a maniac in jail is silly. He already had problems. To say he would become a islamic terrorist because he or any black teen have long sentences is asinine. People can become whatever religion they want. Or they can lie & pretend they have changed... If while in jail you commit more crimes then of course you ought to do more time. Just because your panties are in a bunch over this guy doesn't mean we all have to agree with you. I might have said his sentence was harsh before he killed the cops & raped the child but since reading your rants I think it was not outrageous. Now you have me thinking maybe longer sentences would be better since we have a bunch of islamic terrorists breeding in our jails. Have a nice day.
So you are staying here on this thread to harass TigersEye? I hope the Mods take notice of your posts.
Wow am I the buddy you refer to as the long user name? lmao! I googled your name & read quite a bit about you Yomin. Quite interesting info there.
Yomin Postelnik is running for Florida House District 91... Maybe you ought to learn some manners. Being polite & having manners will get you further in life then being ignorant & abusive. Pushing your agenda on people who disagree & then insulting them isn't going to get you votes IMHO.
