Browner says hacked e-mails don't change anything

Obama administration climate czar Carol Browner on Wednesday rejected claims that e-mails stolen from a British university show climate scientists trumped up global warming numbers, saying she considers the science settled.

"I'm sticking with the 2,500 scientists. These people have been studying this issue for a very long time and agree this problem is real," said Ms. Browner, who President Obama has tapped as his chief of policy on global warming.

The e-mails were hacked from the Climate Research Unit at the University of East Anglia and have come to light over the last week. They appear to show scientists saying they've smoothed over data that doesn't back up their claims of warming, and pondering how to freeze out scientists who disagree with them.

Release of the e-mails has fueled skeptics ahead of next month's major global warming meeting in Copenhagen, which is supposed to set the framework for a new global treaty to restrict greenhouse gas emissions.

The White House said Wednesday that Mr. Obama will personally travel to Copenhagen to commit the U.S. to greenhouse gas reductions.

A linear fit of all 11 years shows a cooling trend.

Since you don't see the point with the real climate data, here's a very quick simplified graph to illustrate why a linear regression trend taken from a statistical and physical anomaly is inappropriate handling of data. Note that this is an important consideration even if using a trend analysis technique like Mann-Kendall.

By your reasoning, I can claim that I have an 11-year (in magenta) downward trend of donut consumption, even though looking at the 10-year, 12-year lines, or whole dataset (navy) would give me a different result.

So let's compare the last 11 years to the model predicitons of IPCC. What do we find? Useless models enginneered by useless sceintists showing zero correlation to the observed climate change while CO2 rises linearly.

That's why models are refined over time. If we threw out everything from any theory or model that failed, we'd have thrown out Continental Drift and not gotten to Plate Tectonics, for example.

I don't believe these are good models. I don't believe we know nearly as much about climate change as these "scientists" would claim. I also believe many of the sceptics overstate their claims against climate change. Both sides are acting politically, not scientifically, and both sides have honest scientists...who are acting scientifically despite their personal beliefs in what is actually happening.

When a hypothesis is falsified it is falsified. Models are hypotheses. Their models have been falsified, they and perhaps you just don't accept it.

CO2 has risen linearly while temperatures have not risen at all for over a decade. The hypotheses that CO2 is responsible for Global Warming is thus falsified.

In point of fact the physics is such that any doubling of CO2 can only account for a couple of degress C of warming. No scientist has ever demonstrated any positive feedback and including high feedback gain in these models is a joke which is why the models predictions weren't even in the city that the ballpark is in.

Climate systems are not well understood which is why making predicitons about same is a fools game.

Here is James Hansan's corrected GISS data from 2007. It shows that 7 of the 11 hottest years all occured beffore 1955 and the hottest years were in the 1920s.

Look at the black dots and not the red line 5 year smoothing. Clearly the equation for positive radiative forcing of CO2 is broken (3.5 X ln (X1/X0)

Something you might want to keep in mind, however: You don't know that the hacker/leaker released everything he had. Destroying the data might not help, and just might lead to criminal charges being sought, especially if the hacker has more than he's shown so far.

I can't see any of these eggheads sacrificing themselves for the cause, can you...?
