Honduran lawmakers are due to decide on Dec. 2 whether to reinstate ousted President Manuel Zelaya and let him finish his term until a newly elected leader takes office in January.
Zelaya was exiled by soldiers in a June 28 coup but has been holed up in the Brazilian Embassy since sneaking back into Honduras in September. After he pulled out of a deal to decide his return, Zelaya's future looks even more uncertain.
Here are some possible scenarios for Zelaya's prospects:
CONGRESS VOTES TO REINSTATE ZELAYA
Zelaya's opponents control the Honduran Congress, which voted to strip him of his powers on the day of the coup, but they could reinstate him to secure international recognition of the Nov. 29 presidential election.
Even if he is brought back, Zelaya's Latin American allies may still reject the election result because the vote is being organized by Roberto Micheletti's de facto government.
Human rights groups accuse the de facto authorities of abuses and say free and fair elections are impossible after a pro-Zelaya TV station was shut down last week.
Zelaya said he will not agree to return as part of any deal because to do so would legitimize the coup and the presidential election that he has branded illegal.
CONGRESS REFUSES REINSTATEMENT
The United States has suggested it will recognize the president who takes office on Jan. 27, with or without Zelaya's return to power.
Micheletti said Congress is respecting the terms of the U.S-led agreement even though lawmakers pledged to take up the contentious issue only after the presidential ballot.

Ping
Just for giggles they should hire some carpenters to very slowly and loudly build a gallows just outside the Brazilian embassy. Have them stop frequently to argue over whether the main beam is strong enough to support a really big sack of crap. LOL
Personally, he going to suffer from lead poisoning
Can’t we have some fun first? Like every day at the crack of dawn fire off a volley after a loud “ready, aim, fire!”
I guess we can have some fun before his demise
They should file charges and obtain an arrest warrant for corruption.
He can step outside the embassy and face trial, or ride the embassy car to the airport and off to exile in whatever country will have him.
I think they would charge him more than corruption. They could probably charge him with insurrection. It carries a heavier penalty.
You’re right.
I have very reliable information that two organizations are behind Manuel Zelaya’s return to power: Fuerzas Armadas Revolucionarias de Colombia (FARK) and (hold on to your hats Freepers) the Service Employees International Union (SEIU). This information I received from a missionary doing relief aid to the people of Honduras.
The SEIU is working in alliance with Unitary Central of Honduran Workers (CUTH), the Confederation of Honduran Workers (CTH), the General Workers Central (CGT), and the Trade Union Confederation of the Americas (TUCA).
FARK and SEIU want to secure Honduras as a drug sanctuary and impose a Marxist government. This effort is supported by Marxist allies Hugo Chávez, Rafael Correa, Daniel Ortega, Raul Castro, and Evo Morales.
The government will clamp down on that. Communists have never been welcome in Honduras.

Ditto.
Thank you for the ping piasa.
I hope the Honduran people are strong enough to withstand the forces against them.
They will. The Communist Party has been banned since 1935.
The writing's on the wall now.
I agree. This I am sure. Zelaya will never take power because of the ordeal he has brought to Honduras.
