Climategate: how the MSM reported the greatest scandal in modern science
Telegraph UK ^ | Nov 21, 2009 | James Delingpole

Posted on 11/21/2009 5:31:48 AM PST by PapaBear3625

Like the Telegraph’s MPs’ expenses scandal, this is the gift that goes on giving. It won’t, unfortunately, derail Copenhagen (too many vested interests involved) or cause any of our many political parties to start talking sense on “Climate change”. But what it does demonstrate is the growing level of public scepticism towards Al Gore’s Anthropogenic Global Warming theory. That’s why, for example, this story is the single most read item on today’s Telegraph website.

[...]

But in the case of “Climate Change”, the MSM has been caught with its trousers down. The reason it has been so ill-equipped to report on this scandal is because almost all of its Environmental Correspondents and Environmental Editors are parti pris members of the Climate-Fear Promotion lobby. Most of their contacts (and information sources) work for biased lobby groups like Greenpeace and the WWF, or conspicuously pro-AGW government departments and Quangos such as the Carbon Trust. How can they bring themselves to report on skullduggery at Hadley Centre when the scientists involved are the very ones whose work they have done most to champion and whose pro-AGW views they share?

The hypocrisy associated with all of this has been very hard to take. I would venture to guess that most of us here love the outdoors and want to preserve clean air, clean water, woods to hike in, places to camp with our children, etc. etc. The US, as the world’s favorite target and villain, has done a better job than almost all of the rest of the world in maintaining air quality, clean water, and preserving natural areas. People come from all over the world to see our National Parks.

Socialism has created the worst pollution and natural disasters in recorded history, including all that happened in the states of the previous USSR. We can’t even trust crayons from China because of lead, or powdered milk because of additives that killed children in this country. Nonetheless, many on the left still think socialism is the best system, and that we are the biggest threat to the planet.

That all makes sense...in reality, it would be difficult for anyone to turn on a dime and say they were wrong, especially if they are in the business of supposedly being right.

Like the media.

I don’t think many of them knew global warming was BS. I think they simply didn’t engage in critical thinking.

And this is the media I am talking about!

Not surprising that the Left and their media sycophants are being hypocritical.

Remember when a congressional hacker tunneled in to some Democrat senators computers and found proof that the senators were preventing a vote on Miguel Estrada because they were unwilling to have a groundbreaking Hispanic named by Bush?

The Democrats exploded in outrage that the memos were hacked and ignored what the memos revealed - that the Left was practicing racial discrimination against a minority for strictly political purposes.

And yet when Republicans have their computers hacked or memos leaked (remember Palin had her Yahoo e-mail account hacked?), the substance of the memos is all the media cares about, not the way the information was obtained.

So, just watch the way they cover this. If at all, it will be about the computers being hacked and not what the hackers found. Had it been a conservative group getting hacked, it will be all about what the hackers found and not that the information was obtained through hacking.

The Day Global Warming Stood Still (But Warming Lies Didn’t)
Investor’s Business Daily ^ | November 20, 2009 | IBD editorial staff

Climate Change: As scientists confirm the earth has not warmed at all in the past decade, others wonder how this could be and what it means for Copenhagen. Maybe Al Gore can Photoshop something before December.

It will be a very cold winter of discontent for the warm-mongers. The climate show-and-tell in Copenhagen next month will be nothing more than a meaningless carbon-emitting jaunt, unable to decide just whom to blame or how to divvy up the profitable spoils of climate change hysteria.

The collapse of the talks coupled with the decision by Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid to put off the Kerry-Boxer cap-and-trade bill, the Senate’s version of Waxman-Markey, until the spring thaw has led Oklahoma Sen. James Inhofe, the leading Republican on the Environment and Public Works Committee, to declare victory over Sen. Barbara Boxer, D-Calif., and the triumph of observable fact over junk science.

“I proudly declare 2009 as the ‘Year of the Skeptic,’ the year in which scientists who question the so-called global warming consensus are being heard,” Inhofe said to Boxer in a Senate speech. “Until this year, any scientist, reporter or politician who dared raise even the slightest suspicion about the science behind global warming was dismissed and repeatedly mocked.”

Inhofe added: “Today I have been vindicated.”

The Ada (Oklahoma) Evening News quotes Inhofe: “So when Barbara Boxer, John Kerry and all the left get up there and say, ‘Yes. We’re going to pass a global warming bill,’ I will be able to stand up and say, ‘No, it’s over. Get a life. You lost. I won,’” Inhofe said.

I can’t remember the name of that guy that heads up NASA right this minute, but it should be interesting to hear his take on this.

Wondering what idiotic tripe will come out of his head.

I think the MSM can “win” if they find the people who leaked this, and make them Public Enemy Number One, people deliberately trying to drown polar bears.

Alinsky Rule, polarize, freeze, personalize. Then they can ignore the content and keep the hoax going.

Maybe to the point of criminalizing anyone who even possesses the “stolen materials”.

Some on the left are already defending these emails, stating that they don’t really say anything incriminating. I don’t have the time to go through them, but what I did read is certainly highly concerning. I am especially upset about the manner in which the climatologists involved formed a nice exclusive ‘club’ who drove the whole field. The climate mafia, controlling funding, publications, and having undue influence on peer review. The science should stand or fall on its own, not on the basis of who is doing the reviewing and what their personal biases are.

Lawrence Liver Labs, NOAA, and NASA emails for these bozos should be public record.

I smell lawsuits coming.

The only people who think that man-made global warming is a serious problem are the same people who are arrogant enough to believe that man can have any permanent impact on a planet that can, and has, literally thrown away every member of a long line of dominant life forms over the course of over a billion six thousand years.

Take your pick!

Once again big story and the MSM isn’t even curious. I guess they’re too busy fact checking Palin’s book.

Trillions of dollars are still on the line- Obama and the dems are NOT goign to let go of htis golden goose- and the mainstream media is STILL brainwashing people with hteir never ending articles, commercials, shows etc, and every article mentioning anythign to do with nature is blamed on man- we ARE goign to suffer fro mthis scam regardless of whether the scam gets exposed or not- already states have mandated vast environmental rules regulations and taxes to ‘combat global warming’, and they will continue to do so- this nightmare will never end regardless of how much science proves that we’re not to blame- the ball has begun rolling, and nothing wil lever stop it.

While articles liek this are encouraging, I’m afraid it’s just too late to stop the madness- the democrats will NEVER EVER eat crow-Never=- they wil lsimply switch tactics in order to keep imposing hteir self-sanctimonious guilt trips on the citizens of hte world

[[It doesn’t matter if the big MSM outlets are slow to cover this. It’s gone viral, Fox and Drudge are both carrying it - the cat’s out of the bag!]]

The cat has been out of hte bag for a long long time now- Even former IPCC ‘scientist have come out and confessed to being coerced to agree to htings they didn’t beleive- but the more they came out, the harder congress and the administration went ahead anyways with their scam- they will simply reword the issue, and keep imposing hteir misguided guilt on everyone

Here’s another article pointing out that the scam is just that- a scam- and hsows the emails within the m ovement that prove it: http://www.powerlineblog.com/

[[It will also doubtless result in a Congressional investigation into similar entities here in the US, the IPCC in particular. I expect Senator Inhofe had a party last night.]]

Don’t get me wrong- I hope you’re right- I hope htis madness does infact come to a halt, but I’m afraid the power of $$ is just too great a draw to the GW scam artists to let it go- no matter which way the climate goes, it’s always goign to ‘be our fault’ accordign to global warmign nutjobs-

Most of their contacts (and information sources) work for biased lobby groups like Greenpeace and the WWF

Ironically, I trust the World Wrestling Federation more than I do these climate "scientists".

[[I can’t wait to hear Lindsey Graham’s excuse for this. And Gingrich, as well. They’ll probably just brush it off as propaganda, or lies the “deniers” have made up.]]

That’s precisely what they are goign to do- liek htey always do- intimidate, marginalize, and call into question ANYONE who ‘opposes efforts to curb global warming’- these scam artists are a bunch of thugs- plain and simple- they WILL get their way in the end

Is is just me, or does anyone else think there is something wrong with this situation?

I did not hear anything about it from O'Reilly or Hannity either, but I suspect that they are having it fact checked so as not to get burned if it turns out to be something manufactured (as the left will shortly start to assert).
