Union Bullies Boy Scout for Dastardly Good Deed 17-year-old's 250 of community service angers Allentown union By TERESA MASTERSON Updated 12:30 PM EST, Tue, Nov 17, 2009
A 17-year-old Boy Scout worked more than 200 hours to clear a path in his local park so that people could enjoy walking and biking along the river.
Bad move Boy Scout. Now grown men who didn’t get around to doing it for a paycheck are after you.
Kevin Anderson, a junior at Southern Lehigh High School, a varsity soccer player and a Boy Scout hoping to get his Eagle Scout badge, spent 250 hours over several weeks creating a path on the partially complete 165-mile Delaware and Lehigh National Heritage Corridor that runs through Kimmets Lock Park in Allentown, reports The Morning Call.
"I decided to do my part in completing this part of the trail. In that way, others could enjoy walking along the river, without having to walk on the busy road," Anderson said in an e-mail, says The Morning Call.
But once the city’s municipal union caught wind of this do-gooder breath of fresh air, it put up a stink at Tuesday’s city council meeting. Nick Balzano, president of the local Service Employees International Unions said its considering filing a grievance against the city for allowing such good, free-of-charge, work to happen.
"We'll be looking into the Cub Scout or Boy Scout who did the trails," Balzano told the council, reports The Morning Call.

Yup. I can't believe the country I'm living in. And if we look across the pond and see the totally bizarre stuff taking place in the UK, we can see pretty clearly that this is going to get even weirder, unless we find a way to stop it.
Glenn has already covered it today on his radio program. He even went further, to play Andy Stern’s own words which point to the communist ascension via SEIU and other union thuggery.
Seems to me that if the union had been doing its job of clearing the trail, the young man would have found something else to use for his Eagle Scout badge. Guess the SEIU didn’t like being shown up by a Boy Scout.

You just do that, Mr Balzano. You “look into” this kid. What, you gonna send some of your guys over to his house to get in his face? Maybe to his school? Or church, maybe you can get to him in church.
If I was in this community, I’d say “BRING IT ON” you asshat. Show us what you got, tough guy.
“Looking into” who did this?? Is that not threatening language? The kid’s name is known. I hope he or his family are not met with threats or worse. Imagine if a pro life group or tea party people made such an overtly worrisome comment. There would be screams of “extremism!”
America would be better off without ANY unions whatsoever. We don’t need them. They need us. Get rid of unions and get rid of the damned leftist thugs....once and for all! They are parasites that drain the productivity of America and as such, we simply cannot afford the added burden they represent.
Maybe panels of employee advocates could be set up instead. Advocates that could or would go to bat for employees that are unable to do so for themselves. But no dues, no organized labor, no political bias and no devastating ‘thuggish clout’. Let’s end the insanity.

It’s like satire, but real.
Maybe the young man should get Tony and his crew to, uh, straighten out Mr. Balzano.
