Some Fear Bush Administration Could Become Target in 9/11 Trial
Fox News ^ | 11-14-09

Some critics say a civilian trial -- instead of a military tribunal -- for self-proclaimed Sept. 11 mastermind Khalid Sheikh Mohammed and his accomplices could end up targeting the Bush administration and its anti-terror policies.

The Obama administration, in deciding to try alleged Sept. 11 conspirators in a New York courtroom, has said it is setting its sights on convictions, but some critics say a civilian trial -- instead of a military tribunal -- could end up targeting the Bush administration and its anti-terror policies.

One of those five defendants, Khalid Sheikh Mohammed, has been at the center of the debate over those Bush-era polices, in particular the harsh interrogation techniques used on Mohammed and others in an effort to obtain information on Al Qaeda and any additional attacks.

There is great benefit to Obama to bring this whole thing to US civilian courts.

#1: The defense lawyers, paid for by us, will get to trot out every weird defense claim, and of course, the tinfoil hat crowd will accept some as gospel.

#2: Most evidence will be forbidden as it was not obtained after Miranda warnings, etc.

#3: Lawyers will demand access to highly classified intelligence sources and materiel, and then, of course, share it with their clients.... and the media.

#4: All the terrorists have to do is get one juror to be afraid of personal reprisals and you get a hung jury.

#5: Best of all for Obama, he gets to put the entire US intelligence community and it’s methods on trial, as he so wants to do to destroy them, and the defense lawyers will do it for him.

Is there anyone with two brain cells who does not realize Obama wants to destroy America?

Obama administration is working toward a situation where they will be afraid of being prosecuted themselves if they ever lose power. Thus they will do everything possible to not lose power. It’s an old game, but not an American game.

“It could come back to hurt him.”

I agree and fully expect it will. Aside from all the preposterous aspects of this circus trial, so wrong on numerous levels, 0 miscalculates the effect it will have on the American people. The can of worms could rip us apart, creating a riff that will be even harder to heal.

If it turns into a Bush trial, I imagine 0 will refuse to comment on the case. Even if he expresses dismay over it, he’ll still allow it to go through. Meanwhile, the country will have to endure it instead of moving forward - this isn’t ‘change’, it’s reliving a nightmare.

Khalid Sheikh Mohammed and his accomplices could end up targeting the Bush administration and its anti-terror policies.

And the prosecution would have to refute what the defendants claim or lose the case. Mr. Holder, why did you investigate the CIA and it's actions at Guantanamo? LOL - 0bama did not think this through.

I agree with your reasons, except for one: “he wants to shift all the attention away from himself”.

This guy is a narcissist .. and this type of person NEEDS to be the center of attention .. so why would he want to shift attention away from himself. I don’t see that happening. The guy is on TV EVERY DAY OF THE WEEK.

The appeaser in chief wants to bury the CIA once and for all. This seems ironic to me since the Clintons spent years stacking the offices with their supporters.

The difficulty is .. the people surrounding the President make the stuff we’re spouting much more believable.

And .. if there is another attack on NYC while the 10 terrorists are there .. could Obama declare martial law and remain in office ..?? The radicals supporting Obama surely suggest he would be open to that .. what with the new energy policy which would allow Obama to take control OF ANYTHING. This guy is really scary.

I totally agree with you.

While I had my differences with some of his policies, he was and is well liked. That is the key the current admin overlooks. Conservatives don’t HATE Bush - it’s only the libs who do.

Why is Osama hiding? The terrorist leaders and planners don’t do the dying. If anything, Al Qaida still wants to destroy the Capital, as they missed last time.

Guilliani agrees with you - he said Obama was painting NY with a big target.

It’s late, or maybe I’m dense .. but can you elaborate a little on your statement so I figure out why you said, “Obama did not think this through”.

Since most of the country disagrees with KSM, et al., being tried here, disagree that water-boarding is torture, and disagree with Gitmo being closed, going after the Bush administration seems like a politically stupid thing to do unless all you’re worried about is shoring up your base.

With each one of these moves, zero alienates more and more Americans. This will sink him further in the polls. Most independents and even moderate rats believe that Bush did a good job of protecting us and took his role as CinC very seriously. They know it was far from a political game to him.

NYC is what will be the target during and after these trials. Obama has had it out for NYC for sometime b/c it is the preeminent symbol of America. It's why he buzzed its skyline.

I tend to agree...IMHO, we are headed for a Chavez-type regime. Comparing Bush to Obama is comparing apples to “radical” oranges, i.e., Bush didn’t surround himself with communists, marxists, maoists, socialists. Bush never planned to create his own “civilian army”, nor did he “indoctrinate” by using his position to access almost daily TV coverage. He didn’t set up a website for citizens to snitch on citizens. He never vowed to “fundamentally transform” our country and he certainly never espoused “redistributive change”. At the rate we are going, 2012 seems a very long way off and I’m not convinced that for the first time in history, some “crisis” won’t precipitate the “postponement” of elections.

Some fear? I’d say it’s pretty much a given they’re going to make the Bush admin the villian here. But before you do, libtards, ask yourself this very simple question: On whose watch were these acts PLANNED?

Next year is an election year. Obama and the Dems will use this trial as a campaign tool. Every time the Dems’ campaign needs a lift, they will release information about Bush and Cheney and the CIA. Secrets will be leaked, tapes and videos will be made public. It will be a kangaroo court used to further discredit Bush and Republicans.

“But I think if people will, in a neutral and detached way, look at the decision that I have made today, understand the reasons why I made those decisions....”

He spends an awful lot of time defending his decision to have a civilian trial. Has even once justified his decision for NOT having a military trial? There IS a difference.

Once having taken this step Zero HAS to end elections and any chance he will ever be out of power. Once he has established the precedent that prior administrations be excoriated through the judicial process he cannot risk having his actions exposed in similar fashion for what he and his Marxist friends have done is far worse than any prior administration. This is Zero's signal that he is confident that he has successfully "transformed America forever."
