ABU DHABI // The killing of 13 people by a Muslim psychiatrist at an American army base must not lead to the victimisation of Muslim Americans, the US secretary of homeland security has said.
On a visit to the capital, Janet Napolitano said grassroots efforts were vital to preserving relations between Muslim Americans and the wider community after Fridays shootings at Fort Hood in Texas.
We object to, and do not believe, that anti-Muslim sentiment should emanate from this, she said. This was an individual who does not represent the Muslim faith.
Describing the killings as a terrible tragedy, Ms Napolitano said a civil rights and civil liberties directorate in her department aimed to prevent everybody being painted with a broad brush.
That work is ongoing and is part and parcel of how we view security, she said. One of the things well do is make sure that were reaching out to the state and local authorities within the US, because they often have better outreach to members of the Muslim community than we do. Ms Napolitano was speaking to female students at Zayed University, and took part in a private question-and-answer session with them.
She said her visit to the UAE was part of the outreach programme to the Muslim community by the US administration, one that included the June speech in Cairo by the US president, Barack Obama.
Talks with officials during her visit centred on general co-operation between the UAE and the US on issues such as training and sharing best practices, she added.

DHS doesn't have any cred to begin with.
Does not represent Muslims? What about the ones that destroyed the twin towers?
If the creep had been a redneck boy Janet would be declaring a national emergency.
So let me understand this Janet..Hasan does not represent Muslims, but the killer of Dr. Tiller represented right wing extremists. Remember that oh so interesting list that she gave out many months ago calling right wingers terrorists like Tim McVeigh, but this Hasan guy, who screams Allah Akbar before opening fire, goes on islamic extremist web sites and praises suicide bombers, and gives away all of his belongings and hands out the quran to people in his neighborhood, he doesn’t represent the muslim community. Perhaps Janet needs to talk with that muslim guy in Queens, ya know, the supposed peaceful, loving muslim who created a web site yesterday offering his prayers to Hasan and saying that the victims of the Ft. Hood massacre will “Burn in eternal hell” yeah that peaceful religion
Lying to the infidels is acceptable and encouraged.
[...the killer doesn’t represent Muslims...]
Sure he doesn’t.
All sarcasm aside, the events of this past week have proven that the US government no longer represents us so I guess we’re on our own.
Oh, you mean like those "Right Wing Extremists" who are military vets, pro-life, or who have Ron Paul bumper stickers on their pickup trucks?
Save this crap for the McCain “moderates” and other limp-wristed, spineless, brain dead “get along” types.

And should never have been formed.

Agreed. It cannot be more manifest until the Civilian Defense Force is pounding on doors along our streets.
We need a new Thesaurus:
i.e. Suicide bombers. Honor killings. Religion of Peace.
Orwell was a prophet.

Orwell’s concern over the power of language to shape reality is also reflected in his invention of Newspeak, the official language of the imaginary country of Oceania in his novel Nineteen Eighty-Four. Newspeak is a variant of English in which vocabulary is strictly limited by government fiat. The goal is to make it increasingly difficult to express ideas that contradict the official line - with the final aim of making it impossible even to conceive such ideas.
Oh, I am so sick of this game they’re playing.
This defies common sense.
***Oh, I am so sick of this game theyre playing.***
It is not a game - this is the real thing!!!
Remember: *Never waste a good crisis*
Well we are damned sure this terrorist doesn’t represent the Amish either.
