House Democrats have cleared an impasse over abortion that has been holding up a vote on sweeping health care legislation.
A vote is expected on Saturday - after President Barack Obama makes a late morning trip to the Capitol to make one final pitch for the legislation.
According to Rep. Bart Stupak of Michigan, he and other abortion opponents will be given a chance to insert tougher abortion restrictions into the legislation during debate on the House floor.
The leadership hopes that no matter how that vote turns out, Democrats will then unite to give the health care bill a majority over unanimous Republican opposition.

WASHINGTON (AP) - House Democrats have cleared an impasse over abortion that has been holding up a vote on sweeping health care legislation.

I think House GOPers are unanimous against it.
“I think House GOPers are unanimous against it.”
Me too. But I also hope it passes, which it will in this iteration. The Senate won’t pass the same bill. Conference will be hell, then they have to get that bill past votes in both houses again.
But I hope that passes too, with complete donkey-azz ownership.
Some naive fools need a life lesson in “you can’t get something for nothing.”
This is a lie and a smokescreen. If the Stupak amendment passes in full force, the Dems will lose the lunatic progressive caucus, with whom abortion is part of their religion.
If Stupak’s amendment passes, it could blow up the bill. If it fails, then these so-called “blue dog” Dems are gonna have to answer to IRATE and ANGRY constituents about why federal tax dollars goes to pay for abortions.
If the Leftard Congress Creatures turn the good section of the American population into criminals, they may get a civil war with themselves victims of the firing squads and the wall.
Here come the smoke and mirrors.
I’ll believe it when I see it. Never trust a rat.
70? Who knows? Owens swore he didn’t support the bill and within minutes of being sworn in he pissed all over his new constituents.
It would be great to believe you but when I let facts override my pessimism, I usually wind up getting smacked by both.
I think it’s misdirection and said so earlier when Hoyer came out and said the vote would probably be delayed until Monday or Tuesday. I think it was just a ploy to draw some of the heat off the rats in vulnerable districts.
Yes. But the House is going to doctor the bill in such a way that it will only need 51 to pass, which is really just 50 because Biden can vote to break a tie.
They’re going to pass it.
I really don’t think any of them would dare - not after last Tuesday.
Aaaaargh! They keep trying to convince us that we think the abortion clause is the be-all, end-all to the life or death of the health INSURANCE bill! Well, it’s not! We don’t want any bill at all, nada, none! Stay out of our health care!
Is Obama promising freshman Senators that he will campaign for them next year? What is being given away to bring them to the table? I know good and well it is more than the abortion clause!
The best thing to do is for millions of Americans to change their withholding exemptions so that NO money is withheld from their paycheck, employers quit withholding SSA and medi-care taxes. Just shut them down. Starve the beast. IGNORE them.
Never believe a rat. They’re cooking up cover for their “aye” votes right now.
If this monstrosity passes, it will be millstone around our necks forever.
And the history of entitlements is that they are broadened, not cut back: Social Security both in the 50s and 60s, and Medicare as recently as 2003 with the "Medicare Modernization Act."
I hope Boehner isn’t about to get sucker-punched. I hope these slow-witted pubs have finally figured out that they’re dealing with a rat jihad on America.
We’ll see if they stand strong or revert to their usual invertebrate, eunuch selves.
Choice #2. If they’re smart, they will not vote for any portion of it except their own amendments.
Besides, any anti-abortion amendment will become a seta aside in another bill. If this bill passes, amendment or no amendment, they will fund abortion and illegals.
