Bachmann aide no longer taking care of business (Update on Thursday's "house call")
Politico ^ | 11/4/2009 | Jonathan Allen

Posted on 11/04/2009 6:37:33 PM PST by markomalley

The aide who helped turn Rep. Michele Bachmann into a controversial mainstay of cable news has informed colleagues that she’s quitting — just as the firebrand Republican congresswoman prepares for her biggest media moment yet.

Multiple sources have confirmed that Michelle Marston, a veteran Hill aide, is leaving Bachmann’s office.

In an e-mail exchange with POLITICO, Marston declined to say why she’s going.

“I’m just not talking about it, and frankly I don’t think there’s a story here,” Marston wrote. “Now, the thousands of people calling our office to tell us [they’re] coming to Capitol Hill tomorrow — that’s a story.”

Marston was referring to the prolific Bachmann’s latest political brainstorm, a “house call” on the Capitol Thursday to which she’s invited Fox News viewers and other conservatives to march with her through House office buildings, “find members of Congress, look at the whites of their eyes and say, ‘Don’t take away my health care.’”

The idea was hatched by Bachmann and a small clutch of allies at the member level, and aides say that the response to it has been so overwhelming that the conservative Republican Study Committee has been tapped to help with the arrangements for the event on the West Front of the Capitol.

The image of travel-ready conservatives flooding the hallways of the Capitol complex to confront members of Congress may not be one that Republican leaders are too keen to project.

A conservative Republican House member, speaking on the condition of anonymity, suggested that Bachmann’s views — and her willingness to state them — make it hard for her to keep staff.

“When your captain’s crazy, it’s time to find a new ship,” the lawmaker said.

Marston replaced Bachmann’s former chief of staff, Rich Dunn, last February. She beefed up Bachmann’s outreach operations with the aim of getting her out in the public eye more often.

“She looks like the type of person who you would invite in to have a cup of coffee at your table,” Marston said at the time. “There are a lot of people who are good, smart, well-meaning, well-intentioned members of Congress, but they speak to the people like they are members of Congress. Rep. Bachmann talks to people like they are people.”

But when Bachmann infuriated liberals with the suggestion that then-Sen. Barack Obama and other Democrats in Congress held “anti-American” views, Marston acknowledged that her boss wasn’t for everyone.

“You either love Michele Bachmann or you don’t love Michele Bachmann at all,” Marston said in an interview with POLITICO last fall.

I believe CedarDave was referring to the unnamed “conservative republican congressman” (I think that was the description) who took an anonymous potshot at Michelle as being the “crazy captain”.

Just another wolf in sheep’s clothing. The one thing many conservatives don’t understand well enough is the extent to which leftists have infiltrated every facet of political life. They have even created new fields of political life to expand the reach of their own ideals, such as preaching their diatribe in math classes that have nothing to do with the subject at hand.

This is basically communism in action, that all the leftists that hate the beneficial limitations on behavior from God have joined up with. This is a formidable coalition which will require much effort to change.

Sounds to me like the “aide” is a LIBERAL and she can’t take the heat of listening to the truth from a conservative.

I fail to see why this is a story at all. Staff turns over for congressman. It happens. It seems that this Marston was on board in terms of setting this protest up, and beyond that, why would a congressman being outspoken unsettle their staff and make it hard to hire them? It would seem that would attract potential staffers.....these folks crave notoriety and being high profile. God knows there are plenty of outspoken leftists in congress. I’m sure their staff turns over.

While I love Bachmann’s spunk and her conservative values, I have to look at this from the perspective of “what if somone on the left did this?”.

I see it as the clarion call to stop socialists from destroying the country and the Constitution. I can't think of a better reason to have a rally on the steps of the Capital followed by flooding Congress with their own Constituents they otherwise would ignore. It's time for them to feel the wrath of Americans. It's out up or shut up time. Bachmann is doing the former. Good for her!

I realize that you have to keep the fight up, but I think we can accomplish more by finding and getting behind conservative candidates that can win.

We may not have enough time to wait solely for elections next year. We need to implement all forms of increasing and unrelenting pressure including rallies such as tomorrow and Congressional offices across the country.

This strikes me as an act of desperation...and it very well might be.

It strikes me as an act of defense for the Constitution so many politicians are willing to ignore or destroy.

I just think that yesterday’s results will get us further than going around the Capitol and showing up Congress-critters.

We must use all means possible to stop and reverse the socialist, tyrannical, runaway government that is occurring.

It seems everytime a thread uses Politico as a source, I
post what they are really about, Liberals. Many who have written for Wash. Post with one or two Mitt people.

Bottom line, Sarah Palin receives front door and side door
bashes along with a few other conservatives.

No. You are giving moral equivalency to the two parties. One is trying to pass an oppressive piece of legislation despite the fact that the people do not want it. The nuts are in the congress. This piece of legislation will have you paying for abortions and perhaps ending people’s lives far sooner than should be. It needs to be stopped any way we can.

Just because the left calls us names does not mean that what they are saying is true. To cower under the threat of tyranny because we are afraid they may say something untrue & bad about us is a sign of weakness and you will end up being enslaved.

Were our founding fathers nuts too? One side has right on their side. They other has tyranny and death. The people have every right to petition their representatives in any way available to them. So what if someone raises their voices a bit? It wouldn’t be the first time voices were raised at the Capitol. Obviously nothing so far has worked or this wouldn’t be necessary and that 2000 page behemoth would be in the trash can.

Stop worrying so much about appearances. When has the left ever complimented the right for being polite? They laugh at us and use that against us. Time to stop being foolish. Our lives and the future of our children depend on it. This isn’t a game.

The Libs will try to divide and conquer and will succeed at picking off many to try to marginalize the conservative movement, however, the true blue conservatives need to be unrelenting in their march forward regardless of who gets picked off along the way.

True Americans have won before and will WIN again!

The left can't put out a call to people who work, who then drop everything to drive to DC to protest. The left can't afford to hire that kind of a crowd, and their followers sure don't show up for free.

We can get a lot more out of the people here if we set up a new system of debate, a new type of forum as an adjunct to this one. One that builds on the many truths that have been spoken here. Maybe a point counterpoint with a point system that only 5 year veterans can vote on.

Debates have always been so limited by time and space. It is possible now to set up a new system to organize conservatives, let the prevailing belief be challenged and confirmed, changed by data or refuted by logic.

I am just fed up with the statu quo and I think there is much more to be extracted by this medium of exchange.

You might want to try over at DU for Debate.

Though FR is supposed to be a Conservative Forum,
it is a combination of conflicting facts, opinions and
uneducated

There are the Libertarian Paulites who are anti war,
in favor of legalized marajuana ,and share other views with the far left.

There is a group who are more moderate

And those who are in the world of reality and have more
understanding of history and politics who are Conservative Republicans. Who sare the views of Reagan and in most
part supporters of Sarah Palin.

We don’t have time to play games. War has been declared on America and the basic societies who are non Muslims by the
IslamOfascists.
