Absolutely agree! This was very close for a third party candidate and if you look at the combined vote totals for the Conservative and Republican parties - he won. I have no doubt that most of those “Republican” votes were cast without any knowledge of the fact that she withdrew or was the kind of candidate she was - way too many really don’t pay attention to politics - just vote their party on election day.
Maybe if he’d lived in the district, he would have known more people there. All the big national names in the world won’t help if the race is seen as one of local concern.
Yes, overall tonight was a very good night! The Christie win in NJ is nothing short of a political earthquake, to quote Sean Hannity. Karl Rove mentioned some other races (ie in Pennsylvania) that went from 'RAT to Republican. Hopefully next year we can take back that NY-23 seat.
I'm looking forward to seeing/hearing much more from McDonnell... I'm so glad that Virginia is back in good hands. Made me sick to see those 'RATs running the state.
How are Christie and McDonnell moderates? Both are pro-life, support banning partial birth abortion and waiting periods and all that, support vouchers, merit pay, against gay marriage, etc... all conservative positions.
Pretty much no different from Hoffman and certainly more conservative than Scozzofava. Christie is more conservative than Whitman in NJ, for example.
Palin, and the other talk hosts you mentioned also endorsed the two of them and supported them. Of course in NJ and VA the part ydid the right thing by having primaries and making sure a strong candidate was nominated from the start and not having htis fiasco with a liberal nominee and intra-party division.
The 3 of them are pretty similar in terms of the issues. It’s not like they’re Specter or Snowe and won. McDonnell is just as conservative as anyone, and Christie isn’t a moderate by any means. Both are way more conservative than DeDe.
Let them crow or whatever they want to do.
Here is the reality:
The GOP threw its support to a democrat, and really DuDu was a democrat and then, at the 11th hour, changed position and threw its support to Hoffman when it was too late to do anything. In the meantime, the candidate they threw their support to screwed the GOP and showed her true colors.
Now Joe Scarborough and others are going to claim that it was conservatives who lost this race or that conservatism lost? Really? The contortions they will have to go through to get to that conclusion will strain credibility and ignore the results in NJ and VA.
I am not happy Hoffman lost but honestly thought it was a longshot that at third pary candidate could win, especially when the GOP candidate was still on the ballot.
The question the MSM will ignore in their quest to brand this a loss for conservatives is this: what if Hoffman had been the GOP nominee in the first place?
Not fair! He was redistricted out of his area.
As I'm sure he will repeatedly remind us. (No /sarc)
According to the vote count so far, Scuzzy still won 5,000+ votes (absentee ballots?) which is approx. the amount Hoffman trails by.
MSNBC said they are too many outstanding votes to call the election for what it’s worth.
People are forgetting there was no primary and she was chosen by the County Chairs not the RNC. Blame the CD-23 county chairs who chose her as the candidate especially her best friend from a county that didn’t want their votes to go to her.
GOP/Conservative lawyers ought to get judges to make any outstanding votes for Scozafava count for Hoffman, since she dropped out, since such a maneuver would put Hoffman over the top..
Here in Kansas we would of said DUDU screwed the pooch or more correctly Newt and DUDU screwed the pooch.
That loss is a bummer, but the Blue Dogs are going to be paying attention to the gov races in VA and esp NJ. The GOP party capos in NY have to rethink how they annoint their candidates.
Now the Democrats suddenly have a double digit lead?
What happened?
Try again 4%
I agree and I think the VA and NJ are far more important. Barryboy campaigned for them and the DNC spent lots of money and still lost. NY is chicken feed compared to these two.
Did you miss Newt’s endorsement of Scozzafava... and her endorsement of the Democrat Owens?
Or the $900,000 spent by the GOP to smear Hoffman, but not Owens?
All from the Republican party - aka: the party of ‘conservative’ values.
Yeah, right! GOP = conservative... my @ss! (The friggin’ Democrat was more conservative than the Republican candidate; even the Daily Kos endorsed the Republican over the Democrat!)
Totally agree! Now it’s time for him to expose the fraud!
However if she truly wasn’t important to the process she wouldn’t have gotten over 5000 votes and been a spoiler.
Who knows? Maybe the weather was cold up there and once again conservatives sat on their fannies and didn’t get out to help save their country.
In that case, the Democrat was more conservative than the Republican.
Scozzafava was endorsed by the Daily Kos... not the Democrat.
