I’m not in love with a party. But the two party system is an important factor in the political stability of the United States, unlike European countries where there are multiple parties in constantly shifting alliances.

Also, as I said, a third party coming from the Right can only help the Democrats. That’s simply a fact. Think Perot.

In fact, it is sheer lunacy to start a third party when the Democrats are hard at work alienating the political “middle.” If we split the opposition to what the Democrats are doing, the Democrats still win.

I think the only real chance we have of taking back our country is to stay within the Republican party and push it hard to the right, on issues where the majority of Americans, including the middle, agree with us already — like spending, taxation, and freedom.

Maybe this whole debacle will put the fear of God into the Republican elite. Maybe it won’t. They can spin it as the majority rejecting the “extremists” on the right.

Actually, I think there were good arguments for what Palin did, and for what Newt did. I think this is one of those instances in which people can have a good faith disagreement and still be “conservative.”

Sarah took a gamble and lost. Newt took a gamble and lost, too.

“May we see this pledge? “

No you can’t. Because it does not exist. He did not sign anything. He made some supportive statement somewhere. I forget where I saw it now. It was far from a signed pledge. No doubt when he saw what Dede really stood for then he was horrified.

“Freepers may not like this sort of friendship-over-ideas motivation, but not liking it does not make it go away.”

####

Friendship or not, these people are not, and never have been conservatives, in any way shape or form. Club member, socializing “Republicans” maybe, but not reliable conservatives. Thus, in addition to the election results themselves, I don’t think NY23 is as conservative as advertised.

One’s bedrock, core beliefs easily trump any sort of friendship.

In my world anyway.....

Ugh...

socialist = bad
socialist dressed as democrat = bad
socialist dressed as republican = bad
voting for socialist dressed as democrat = bad
voting for socialist dressed as republican = bad

I think that is as simple as I can make it for you and still have it be in a written language, if you still cant grasp the concept then Im afraid you’ll need some specialized help.

I think he is what is called a cipher, a blank being on whom the club for growth, viguerie, et al could project an image of “conservatism.” The scary part is how many people bought that.

Baghdad Bob has some competition, as only he could consider a loss in an election a victory.

FOR THOSE WITH PROBLEMS UNDERSTANDING KEY CONCEPTS: Purpose behind an election is to win.

The conservative candidate did not win. Am I missing something here? THE DEMOCRAT WON THE ELECTION in a supposedly solid conservative area. Conservatism lost in that election. That is not good, and that is NOTHING TO CELEBRATE.

Winning an election is not a gray concept ... its all black and white. YOU either WIN or you don’t. We lost.

Having a conservative Dem beat a very liberal R who would have stood with Pelosi anyway on a one year election cycle to send a message is not a loss.

We would have lost anyway, no matter who won. This way, we have sent a message, and possibly even got the lesser of two evils in office.

Been different, maybe if Dede hadn’t been hand picked and there had been a primary.

Lesson: Conservatives might not be able to win with the way things are set up, but GOP, you can’t win without us — stop trashing the conservatives in your midst and stand up for something besides the letter R.

A third party coming from the Right will always help the Democrats. Not that hard to figure out.

Textbook case last night.

So the practical upshot of this is that, to you, it would be better to have elected a Republican into office, even knowing that her agenda was so liberal the Daily Kos endorsed her over the Democratic candidate.

Which, somehow, would have magically produced a conservative agenda?

Please do explain...

Yes, but many here argue that we need to just shut up and color. IE - vote for anyone with an (R) next to their name, regardless.

And if you have the temerity to even *THINK* about questioning that... then you are a traitor and deserve the worst that can be meted out.

They are the essence of party over policy... and will be the doom of us all.

Also, as I said, a third party coming from the Right can only help the Democrats. That’s simply a fact. Think Perot.

Then it behooves the Republican party to co-opt that 3rd party message *BEFORE* it gets to that point!

Not tell the dissatisfied conservative base to STFU.

Why is this so hard to understand?

Thanks for the answer.

I'm thinking that dede got the vote on the absentee ballots.

This is what happens when the gop doesn't let the people select their candidate.
They need to back off, and quit interfering.

Here's hoping for a Hoffman victory in 2010. (if he decides to run)
