Crushing the media: Left's global drive for control
NY Post ^ | October 31, 2009 | Ralph Peters

The Obama administration's un-American attempt to vilify Fox News only increased the network's popularity. But this White House debacle can't be judged in isolation: There's a global leftwing assault on the freedom of information.

Intense leftist sentiment in most of the international media isn't enough. Extremists seek total control.

The one thing leftists just can't bear is criticism. (Mass murder's fine, but don't stray from the party line.) As early as the French Revolution, the left grasped that a free press is inherently subversive to its doctrines.

The Obama administration's aborted Fox hunt simply aligned our government with the hounds of the global left. Our Constitution and common sense frustrated the White House apparatchiks -- but other leftist and radical regimes are crushing press freedoms, murdering dissenting journalists and turning the media into a state weapon.

In country after country where Obama's been tapping re-set buttons, the media are under assault:

Our Constitution is to protect us from a one sided takeover.

When are the people going to demand our Constitution be enforced? CONGRESS WHERE ARE YOU?

It’s OK, the mainstream media doesn’t mind being the ever-erring tool of the socialists ...

He tells it like it is. And there's also this:

The American media elected Obama. No presidential candidate's past ever went so deliberately underexposed.

CONGRESS WHERE ARE YOU?

Surely you jest. Congress, at least this Congressional makeup, is all about eliminating the Constitution.

As early as the French Revolution, the left grasped that a free press is inherently subversive to its doctrines
. . . and we have a free press in America - just not the people who call themselves "the press." They are a press, just not a - certainly not the free press. They are not free precisely because they are "associated."

The press was free when it was not associated, and became unfree when its constituents associated. The association, the "Associated Press," transformed the major emphasis of the newspaper business from the printing of the political perspective of the printers to so-called "hard news." The constituent parts of the AP were notorious for not having much in common pollitically, but the emphasis on "hard news" from the AP essentially mooted those differences of viewpoint. In absolute terms there may be just as much ink spilled over those differences - but in relative terms the editorial/op-ed pages became a backwater ghetto compared to the front page and the body of the newspaper.

The associated press would have you to believe that the "hard news" reporting is independent of the political perspective of the newspaper, and it is - but it is the essence of the AP. The conceit that whatever the AP "wire" contains that you have not read is important is the reason for the existence of the AP. There is no necessary reason why this would be so, it is only a desire of the membership of the AP. Of course, the AP can exert its influence in order to make the news be bad enough that it is important that you know it . . . but that is hardly something to boast of in public. And the last thing that anyone who actually was objective - the great boast of associated press journalism - would wish to have happen.

So rather than being inherently objective, associated press journalism is inherently interested in bad news, and in self-fulfilling negative prophesies. The claim they make for their own objectivity is self-negating - since no one can be sure of their own objectivity, only the subjective person can make such a delusional claim.

The free press we have is able and willing to criticize self-proclaimed "objective" journalism whenever - as is actually quite routinely the case- they allow their motives to attract attention and to promote themselves at the expense of the productive. The free press naturally takes considerable heat from self-proclaimed "objective" journalism on that account.

A small group in each of these countries silence all opposition and that gives them the appearance of wide spread support. Not only is Obama not protesting that, he is part of it. Unless we make our voices heard loud and clear, and be prepared to do more, we will be in lock down ourselves.

The internet and 24/7 cable news networks are largely responsible for the demise of print media, the clients of AP. As the print media began to bleed they cut costs wherever they could. That was often the newsroom. They began to lean heavily on AP for news rather than on their won personnel. Some newspapers seemed to be simply clipping services for AP.

That is a key reason for the present influence of AP. UPI used to offer some competition but no more.

Sure! The leftist elites always know what’s best for the regular, workaday folks. We are too dumb to have our popular will heeded—all we have to do is rely on the smart guys and we’ll be taken care of—from Canada to Argentina; from Britain to China. Cradle to grave nanny statism.

Hannity had a San Fran politician on last night and she said her duty was to do “what’s best for my constituents.” Not follow their will—do what’s best for them!

Phooey! Most of them couldn’t run a lemonade stand! Dreamers and fools!

...Hugo Chavez has been gutting a once-vibrant media since 2002. Regime thugs invade newsrooms, rough up journalists and wreck machinery. As for those who resist, well, accidents happen. Since August, Chavez has revoked the licenses of 34 more radio and TV stations. Obama looks away.

It can happen here - the MSM needs to STOP kissing dem butt and get on with being responsible watchdogs.

If the left’s vision for humanity is so superior, you’d think leftists could live with alternative views. But the left is totalitarian at heart and can no more tolerate debate than al Qaeda’s fanatics can accept religious diversity.

The American media elected Obama. No presidential candidate’s past ever went so deliberately underexposed. So the attack on Fox may simply have been payback to the networks that are hemorrhaging viewers, the equivalent for the media of a night in the Lincoln bedroom. ====================================

Great read PING

The pressitutes in this country are so bad that if Hussein padlocked Fox and declared martial law and a “dictatorship of the proletariat,” they would all nod approvingly and discuss the necessity of doing so under present economic conditions.
