Former Bush State Department official Liz Cheney diplomatically slammed Barack Obama today for imposing on grieving military families by bringing the White House press corps and photographers with him to Dover Air Force Base last night to receive the bodies of 15 soldiers and 3 DEA agents killed in Afghanistan this week.
Jim Hoft at Gateway Pundit reported Cheney's remarks made on John Gibson's Fox radio show today. Here is a corrected version of the partial transcript posted at Gateway Pundit.
I don't know why he went to Dover. I mean I think that clearly it is very important for our commander in chief whenever he can, in whatever way possible to pay tribute to our fallen soldiers, our fallen miltary folks.
But I think, you know what President Bush used to do is to do it without the cameras. And I dont understand sort of showing up with the White House Press Pool with photographers and asking family members if you can take pictures. I just, thats really hard for me to get my head around. I think its an honorable and important thing for us to pay tribute. Theres no greater sacrifice people make to the nation. But...it was a surprising way for the president to choose to do it.
I would also point out the best way to pay tribute to those who sacrifice is to win the war.
17 of the 18 families of the fallen denied Obama his photo op at Dover.
ABC News reports that 14 of the families were at Dover last night and met in private with Obama.
Plus , little known is, the Griffith family was the only one who gave Obama permission to photo-op with their son. The rest told him to take a hike.
My son graduates SOI on next Wednesday (sadly neither one of us can get away in the middle of the work week - WHY Wednesday?) and he tells me he's a machine gunner and probably headed for the 'Stan fairly soon.
It's gettin' kinda personal for me and the Big Zero here . . .
The more I think about that ‘mispronunciation’ the more I believe it was deliberate.
Obama went out to get his photo op with the caskets of our beloved Servicemembers for his version of a peacenic trophy pic.
Never forget, any KIA was KIA under Obama’s new deadly ROE’s. The civilians and the Taliban's safety are more important than keeping the troops alive and letting them fight.
OBAMA, SIT DOWN AND SHUT UP!!!
May God bless and protect our troops and save them from this man!
Obama cannot give the generals his answer and has NOT sent the extra troops needed to win in Afghanistan, yet he can come with cameras to photograph the caskets and family of men his lame policies may well be responsible for killing.
2012 cannot come soon enough for me.
theOne’s corpse man comment was appalling, has he at least apologized for it?
AMEN to that FReeper.
I am fairly confidant that Liz has shed real tears for our fallen soldiers.......I cannot say the same for theOne.
Liz speaks for me and millions of others. She does not deserve your classy “STFU” comment.
I don't think he apologizes for anything. Super megalomaniac ego and all.
Good for you. I think we all can respect a stand on principles even if we disagree with it.
But the Marines were killed in a terrorist attack. You might as well draw equivalencies between GWB visiting the WTC after the attack.
That’s more parallel to RR’s meeting the fallen Marines than Zero’s cynical late night visit with the WH press corps(e) :-) in tow!! If he had REALLY wanted to simply honor the fallen and meet the families—why the photo op???
As the four years drag out we shall see more of the real clown surface. This guy operates like he is still a candidate for POTUS.
Plus he took GIBBS and ERIC HOLDER!!!! WHY?????
Dittos. BIL in Air Force, two deployments to Iraq under President Bush. I wouldn’t want THIS president anywhere near him.
It's good to have beliefs and stand by them. However, there's much more to this than political cynicism, you would do well to educate yourself to the entire picture of Zer0 as CINC in regards to his actions with our military.
As for telling Liz Cheney to "STFU" you may well be on the wrong forum.
As the mother of a Marine I too am appalled at 0bama’s behavior. My son is tough as nails and a mama’s boy. He’s a homebody who would go to the ends of the earth to protect his country. He’s a patriot. There’s a saying that to be a mother is to forever have your heart walking around outside of your body. Right now, my heart is in the Marine Corp.
These parents and family members are experiencing the deepest most personal pain you can ever imagine. How dare he show up with a bevy of reporters to intrude on their private grief. Had he shown up WITHOUT reporters in tow (Bush managed it) then you might have a point.
If he truly cared he would give at least as much attention to making a decision about Afghanistan as he does to health care speeches, campaign fund raisers, and improving his golf game. The military is merely an afterthought and their families are political pawns. You don’t have to question his motives but as the mother of one of those troops I sure the hell will. Semper Fi indeed!

LOL! Understatement of the week!
Photo-op getting ready to be addressed by Laura Ingraham on BOR (guest hosting)
Nope, I don't. I just detest it when people start cat-fights over any president's motive in honoring the war dead, because a very important group of people get forgotten during all the hissing and clawing: the war dead.
But that's just me.
I personally -- meaning this is just my opinion -- think it is a disgrace to the fallen. Other people may think it's the ultimate honor for a dead soldier to have politicians hissing over his casket. Not me. I think it is a disgrace.
I think you’re just interested in attempting to falsely gain the moral high ground and don’t really give a damn about the war dead just like your president doesn’t really give a damn about them. Run that bs by someone who hasn’t been around the block a time or two in your socialist studies class or some such forum.
Oh by the way, 17 of 18 of the families told the pantywaist to take a hike. I am quite content to stand with them and not with you and president pantywaist.
