Well that was quick. You see, for a few hours today I believed in the existence of moderate Democrats. I really did. I'd resisted believing in such a thing for a long time but I relented when I saw Michigan congressman Bart Stupak saying that he was prepared to "torpedo" the Democrat's healthcare plan as long at it contained public funding of abortion.
Many pro-lifers including me were cheering Stupak. I even said that if he resisted we'd be referring to him as a profile in courage.
Do I feel stupid. Video footage of a town hall held in Cheboygan, Mich., on Saturday, shows Stupak saying that he'd vote for the Democrats healthcare reform even though it includes public funding for abortion.
If everything I want [is] in the final bill, I like everything in the bill except you have public funding for abortion, and we had a chance to run our amendment and we lost. OK, I voted my conscience, stayed true to my principles, stayed true to the beliefs of this district, could I vote for healthcare? Yes I still could. So what he's saying is that he'll make some efforts to prevent abortion funding but he doesn't think it's all that important. Saving the lives of the unborn isn't as important as pleasing President Obama. This is like saying that I am opposed to the death penalty, sure, but if I lost and there was no pardon - sure I 'd pull the trigger.
Congressman Stupak, principles don't have an expiration date.

NEVER, EVER trust the Left...
Stupak says he’s run up against a stonewall with House Speaker Nancy Pelosi and other fellow Democrats in seeking to protect that 33-year-old ban in the evolving healthcare reform legislation.
He says he’s got 40 fellow House members who stand with him, most of them who’ll vote against any reform bill without the antiabortion protection. And Stupak asserts he’s prepared to lose his job over this stand.
Scene: Stupak’s office, late yesterday afternoon. An Aide quitely knocks on his door and says,
“Uhhh, Congressman. Mr. Emmanuel is here to see you.”
The man is a fraud. Promises to be moderate to conservative and consistently votes a a lib. I saw the other thread about his promise to vote against abortion if it was in the health billand knew he was lying.
Hint: He’s lying.
Or a couple of hundred million dollars in TARP money showed up in his district.
Obama has $500 trillion in unspent cash just for situations like this.
I've had to work with these people and the only way they have any value at all is if they are in the minority, you may get a vote out of them but until then, they vote for Pelosis for Speaker.
Don't be fooled.
Obviously meant $500 billion
I was thinking that too.

TRANSLATION:
“Vote for it, or we’ll PRIMARY YOU, you ignorant pig!!!”
Bwa-hahahah. Once again, so much for the “good Democrat.”
Maybe we should see what Stupak actually does. Which position is real?
His religion is “Democrat” and his savior is Obama....
Eggs Ackley! He’s the Snoid from Cheboygan! Well,,, different Snoid, and,,different Sheboygan,,,butt,,,,,,,
That was Saturday but just yesterday he said he was going that he had 40 dems who would vote with him nay ——we will see
Maybe they both are. Stupak will vote for Obamacare if he gets a vote on a satisfactory amendment to bar any use of federal funds for abortion, just as he said. But Pelosi has no intention of allowing a vote on any such amendment because it would pass. Stupak may cave, but he hasn't done so yet. If he doesn't get a vote on his amendment and he still votes for Obamacare then he deserves all the brickbats. Until then we should hold our fire.
“...we’d be referring to him as a profile in courage.”
.
Haven’t heard that expression since the 60’s. Can you think of ANYONE in politics who can be described as someone having a profile in courage?
