Mich. Democrat: Pelosi 'not happy with me' over trying to pull govt funded abortion from bill
The Hill ^ | 10/28/2009 | Bob Cusak

Posted on 10/28/2009 6:10:03 AM PDT by Mozilla

Rep. Bart Stupak said Speaker Pelosi is not pleased with his effort to change abortion-related provisions in the healthcare bill being crafted by the House.

During an interview on C-SPAN's "Washington Journal" show, Stupak (D-Mich.) said he is undeterred in trying to ensure that taxpayer dollars do not pay for abortions. Stupak, who opposes abortion rights, acknowledged that some in his party are upset with his public campaign to change the bill.

"The Speaker is not happy with me," Stupak said.

The Energy and Commerce subcommittee chairman said he has been working with Democratic leaders on a compromise, but they haven't been able to strike a deal. Stupak pointed out that he and Democratic leaders have a fundamental disagreement on whether health plans that receive subsidies from the government should be allowed to provide coverage options on abortions.

Stupak wants a vote on the House floor to strike the language, and predicts he would have the votes to pass such an amendment. If he doesn't get one, Stupak said he and as many as 39 other Democrats will vote no on a procedural motion to bring the health bill to the floor.

The Michigan Democrat said he will not be backing down: "I'm comfortable with where I'm at. This is who I am. It's reflective of my district. If it costs me my seat, so be it."

Stupak has always pretended to be conservative when he runs, otherwise he wouldn't get elected. The sad part is he consistently seems to vote liberal.

Like most of the bluedogs, he just fakes it.

If taxpayers are going to be forced to pay the medical expenses of total strangers, there is absolutely no reason for them to have to pay for completely unnecessary elective procedures.

I wonder if Pelosi is also making elective botox injections, silicon implants, and face jobs a part of “health care reform” as well?

“Like most of the bluedogs, he just fakes it.”

Stupac is a liberal on most issues, however, he has a near perfect pro-life record and votes pro-gun on most everything. He has a NRA C+ rating.

He supports the death penalty.

The amazing thing about this is not the fact that a Dem is opposing Pelosi — but that he’s speaking about it publicly to the media. This does not bode well for the libs in power!

That’s almost certain. These Democrats are insanity incarnate. It’s impossible to even parody these freaks.

Rep. Stupac sounds more conservative than the RINOs in Congress and that is pretty sad when you think about it.

Blue Dog Democrats are in a pickle.

1. Many believe if they vote in favor of the health care bill they will lose next November.

2. They also know if they vote against the bill, they will not get Democrat party funding and probably lose in the primary.

Even though conservative do not care for Blue Dogs, we should give them support (including financial) if they do the correct thing and vote no. Just because their Dems, doesn't mean we cannot influence their vote.

So the democrats are admitting the tax paying public will be paying to kill babies whether they approve of the murders or not.
Sara knew what she was talking about when she mentioned death panels. The most vulnerable members of our society are on the democrats death list.

Nah. She gets to keep her own private insurance. The death care welfare bill is for the slaves. She'll just keep using her own private insurance for her touch ups.

This is kinda off topic, but related to why Stupac is against abortion...

Sure, Michigan tends to vote RAT for POTUS and is listed as a blue state. It is a misconception that Michigan is a liberal state though. Except for that largest RAT cities, Mi is quite conservative on social issues.

Traditional marriage, Pro- life, Pro-gun. The States gun laws are about the same as Texas. Michigan banned queer marriage and queer partnerships. It is a ‘shall issue’ CCW state.

Stupac represents the UP and the far northern part of the state. It's a poor area that votes liberal on fiscal issues, but is very conservative on everything else.

That is the reason Stupac gets elected, he really is half and half of both sides.

If it reflects his district, it won't cost his seat. I for one hope he can stay strong in his beliefs. (See Tagline)

Well, I'd likely support him instead of Dede Scuzzyfava. But he sure doesn't deserve my financial support, nor do most of the "blue dogs" because they are mostly cross dressers, pretending to be conservative when they're not.

Bart Stupak isn't a conservative, he just pretends to be, then mostly votes the liberal line.
