Larry David’s ‘Piss Christ’

An email received today:

“First let me state that I’ve been a fan of “Curb Your Enthusiasm” for many years and, even though Larry David is a liberal, I generally enjoy the writing and Larry’s antics. However, this time what I saw made me feel a little sick, extremely disappointed and a bit angry as well. I will never watch the show again as I have lost all respect and feelings of good will for Mr. David.

“Did you happen to see the episode to which I refer? Assuming you did not catch the episode, briefly stated: Larry pisses on the face of a painting of Jesus Christ, followed by mocking of Christians who believe the piss drop on the face of Jesus is a tear, thus they’ve witnessed a miracle. I wonder how many other viewers, Christian and non Christian, are similarly shocked and disgusted? Of course, the hypocrisy is that Mr. David would never exhibit such gross contempt for any other religion, especially Islam.

...he is just by his very nature the guy you love to hate, like his Costanza character on Seinfeld. On his show, he pretty much pisses everyone off sooner or later, be they lesbians, blacks, Christians, or what have you. So at least he is an “equally opportunity” a-hole.

Exactly. And that is how I take that kind of "humor" on the show. I like Curb, and will keep watching even though they tend to "offend" me a lot! I get it!

I’ve always enjoyed Larry David’s sick sense of humor. This was pure ridicule rather than his usual m.o. of finding humor in everyday circumstances and human frailties.

Michael Savage is normally too abrasive for me but I heard him on this today and totally agree with him.

A caller even tried to say that Larry David was trying to be funny. Savage came right back at him with how David was just making fun of Christians AND calling them stupid about believing in miracles!

I haven’t seen Curb Your Enthusiasm in several years—ever since The Sopranos’ last episode. I used to subscribe to HBO just for the Sopranos season, then discontinue it. Now there’s no reason to subscribe. I like the characters on CYT, but the stories are beyond idiotic most of the time. The genius of Seinfeld was that it took common embarrassing situations that no one else ever talked about, and made hilarious shows out of them. On CYT, Larry David creates situations that would never ever happen to anyone and makes embarrassingly unhilarious shows out of them. The plots are so contrived that it’s painful to watch.

Gee, I wonder how HBO would respond if suddenly some... "Muslims"... started writing and emailing HBO complaining how they are offended because some actor thought it was funny to blaspheme the Holy Koran and to piss on a picture of "The Holy Prophet"!

Do you think they would publicly apologize if they thought the word on the street was that they had pissed on a picture of Mohammed instead of Jesus?

Or do you think they would respond by saying something like, "Oh, you shouldn't be offended! We didn't piss on Mohammed! No, we pissed on Jesus!

It would be very interesting to see their reaction.

We're loyal fans of Curb Your Enthusiasm (even tho we loathe Larry David's politics)..

Larry usually ends up acting like the biggest jerk on the planet with friends and family.

What we enjoy is watching him put his foot in his mouth from the start then witness how he ties together all the unusal situations he gets into..Larry undoubtely ends up looking like the fool.

In the last show, Larry had a urination problem he was treating with pills that made him pee like a race horse..and he'd splatter when he should have had direct aim.

So yes...a single drop of his urine landed on the Jesus picture in a friends bathroom. What ensued was hilarious.

Larry David is a genius...JMHO.

I totally agree I think many here are those who didnt see the episode. It was an accident and wasnt done on purpose. Very similar to those who criticize rush or beck but never listen to them. Get all the facts before people jump all over him. Larry david is an uber lib, and I dont enjoy his politics, but I think the show is overall funny.

My other question is who put a picture of jesus in their bathroom?? The bathroom isnt necessarily a holy place.

HB..no one puts a picture of the Sacred Heart next to the toilet..BUT thats what makes the show so hilarious..the outlandish situations.

PM..I take it you're not a fan of Larry Davids or you'd know that he pokes fun of everyone..including his own Jewishness.

These people were Catholic who wanted to go on Tour with the weeping photo. Larry finally had to admit his involvement.

So I am Catholic and personally, I find it ludicrous when people claim they see the image of Jesus in the mirror or on a slice of toast.
