M. Speaker,
The last time our unemployment rate hit 9.8 percent was in 1983.
Ronald Reagan responded by cutting taxes and reducing regulatory burdens on the economy, producing the biggest peacetime economic expansion in the nations history.
Today, President Obama is doing exactly the opposite. Obamacare and Cap and Trade and many other bills promise the biggest tax increases and heaviest regulations our country has ever seen.
Over the last 100 years, three presidents responded to recessions by reducing taxes and regulations: Warren Harding, John F. Kennedy and Ronald Reagan and all produced rapid and dramatic economic recoveries.
Two presidents reacted to recessions by doing the opposite.
One was Herbert Hoover in the early 1930s, who radically increased taxes and spending and imposed unprecedented burdens on trade. And the other is Barack Obama.
As they say, those who refuse to learn from history are condemned to repeat it.
Didn’t McClintock vote for TARP?
Raising taxes in a recession is insanity.... or simply evil in a sadistic sort of way. I don’t think 0bama is insane.
He wasn’t in Congress yet, but has voted against the bailout bills and abhors TARP.
McClintock is a Congressman now, he was elected last year after spending 20+ years in Sacramento.
oops, sorry for the bad info. I was in error that McClintock was not a congressman. He is. Sorry for the error. I was so used to him being in Sacramento.
Yes, sorry, my error. He is indeed a congressman. I was so used to him being in Sacramento I just couldn’t adjust to his recent election. Good man. Hate to lose him in Sacramento. That’s one less good guy in a sea of cockroaches.
You are right. It looks like he wasnt in Congress yet to vote on TARP. He DID however, vote to tax bonuses (which were contractually obligated) received by employees of firms that received TARP money at 90%.
