Newt Gingrich appeared on talk shows this Sunday and flirted with the idea of a 2012 presidential bid. In a glaring example of just how wide the schism between Republican Party moderates and conservatives has become, pundits on the right were quick to shoot Gingrich down. The man who led the GOP to a 1994 revival is now dismissed being by some on the right as a RINO -- Republican In Name Only. Why? In a contentious New York State Congressional race that has split the Republican Party at the national level, Gingrich irked conservatives by endorsing moderate Dede Scozzafava, and urging Republicans not to support the more conservative third-party candidate Doug Hoffman. In the ongoing battle for tomorrow's GOP, the former speaker of the house isn't gaining any ground with grassroots conservatives.
* Palling Around With Liberals
Michelle Malkin imagines the administration Gingrich would have if he were president. "Picture the cabinet: Al Sharpton as education secretary. Scozzafava as labor secretary. Al Gore as global warming czar. Noooooo, thanks." she says. According to Malkin, "the conservative base is wising up and pushing back," and it won't need Gingrich's services to retake the party. "Constantly invoking Reagan isn't going to erase the damage Gingrich has done to his brand over the years by wavering on core issues and teaming up with some of the Left's biggest clowns."
* Gingrich Has Lost Touch With Base
At The American Spectator, Quin Hillyer says Newt Gingrich "should be ashamed" of himself for being "beltwayed" and missing the anti-establishment wave of the new conservative grassroots. "Right now the broader public, not just hardline conservatives, are in an anti-establishment mood. Yet Gingrich has sided with the establishment, and with a professional politician, against a self-made outside businessman getting into politics due to principle."

This is getting good.
“Give me a good third party candidate, Sarah, and Im onboard.”
Right there with ya, brother (or sister)
For sheer brain power he is still the best we have on a national stage.
He ain’t Palin, but he’s a hell of a lot better than McCain or Graham.
If he get’s to the end...he has my vote.
His brain is malfunctioning, and has been since 1995
I remember when the Repubs gained power in the 90’s, they fell for the dems’ whining about “sharing power” giving them near equal representation on committees, disregarding the shoddy treatment they had received for 50 years. Did they really think the evil dems would treat them nice when they regained power? Newt and the boys proved themselves to be naive and stupid. And he’s still proving it.
Moderate like her moderate fellow Acorner, Barack Obama.
I think he will only get there if liberals vote for him like they did McCain.
I Agree! we must understand that No Old White Male has a snowball’s chance in you-know-where of beating O in 2012. WAKE UP Newt-They would eat you for lunch.
Newt blew it when he did that Public TV telethon soon after becoming Speaker! I remember the confusion! Now I know much better - he was so impacted by the MSM against his JUST AND RIGHT comments about public television, he surrendered his conservative moorings to do that stupid telethon!
Gingrich was compromised. He’s not got the freedom any more that he used to have. The gamble is too great.
I’ve heard tell Newt’s management stills are atrocious, that he belongs nowhere near the executive. Does anyone know of a source for that?
skills
Please, please, Newt, just go away!!!!
Why does FOX keep pushing this jerk on us?
I couldn't agree more. I voted for my last RINO when I voted for McCain. I will vote for third party conservatives, and if the socialists win, then let them be socialists with a D after their names, not an R. And maybe maybe the Republican leadership will wise up. But I doubt it.
I wouldn’t vote for him even if he was the only one on the ballot.
Maybe we need to help the bad ones not get re-elected every time by tattling on them better.
:O) I’m not big on tattling but for congresscritters I’d make an exception..Loud, clean and often....
Gingrich failed in the “Contract with America,” getting involved in an extramarital affair, like Clinton and those he was supposed to be opposing. He compromised himself, from what I can tell, forgiven I’m sure, but not trustworthy. Where are the true conservative leaders of our country?
