Ohio can't find doctors to offer execution advice

COLUMBUS, Ohio (AP) - Ohio was on track this year to execute a record number of inmates. One botched execution and several lawsuits later, the death penalty is temporarily on hold there.

The latest challenge: The state can't find medical professionals willing to advise it on the best way to put condemned inmates to death because of ethical and professional rules.

The rules—which generally prohibit doctors, nurses and others from involvement in capital punishment—are deterring those professionals from speaking publicly or privately about alternatives to the state's lethal injection process, Attorney General Richard Cordray said in a court filing.

"A small number of promising leads have emerged, but identifying qualified medical personnel willing and able to provide advice to the State regarding lethal injection options continues to be challenging and time-consuming," Cordray said in the Friday filing in U.S. District Court.

Executions have stopped while the state develops new injection policies following a Sept. 15 execution that was halted because the inmate had no suitable veins.

When they find one, their first priority should be to put the Cleveland Browns out of their misery.

How about scissors to the skull and then suck out their brains?

Oh, I’m sorry that’s cruel unusual punishment reserved for babies.

What professional murderers are on the payroll?

I'm making jest of the murders, hitmen, etc. in prison, getting paid 50 cents/day while there.

Outsource the job to the Chinese. They do a “bang up” job on their own and they have so many of our other jobs.

Now that I think of it why don’t we outsource our prisons there also!

Wasn't there a SCOTUS case recently in which a state's execution method (I think it was KY) was specifically ruled to be allowed under the "cruel and unusual" clause? I'm almost certain that there was.If I'm correct then OH can just copy that state's method...to the letter.

Problem solved.Psychopaths dispatched.

Yup,I was correct.April 2008.The vote was 7-2 in favor of KY’s execution protocol.Only Ginsburg and Soutter dissented (now *there's* a surprise). So,OH can just copy KY...to the letter....and,BINGO! Another one bites the dust.

I like throwing them out of a plane without a chute.

In very rare circumstances that can be survivable.

Put the bastards in a 100% N2 environment for an hour.

You beat me to it. I've long recommended that as the cleanest way to execute someone. No pain, and it's 100% effective. No medical personnel needed, either.

1. One .38 caliber gun.

2. A couple of bullets for same.

3. Place loaded gun at one ear of convicted prisoner.

4. Point towards other ear==thru head.

5. Pull trigger.

6. Give body to coroner.
Use sack if necessary.
End of discussion.

Ask around on death row. I suspect there’s a bevy of good ideas to be found among the folks there on quick ways to get-r-done and some not so quick ways too.

That lovely device was invented by a physician ...

Dr. Guillotine eventually ended up on the business end of his own invention.

No he didn't. he died of natural causes in 1814

And he didn't invent it either.

The Halifax Gibbet was the means of execution in Halifax, Yorkshire from 1260 until 1650.

It was seen c.1560 by James Douglas, 4th Earl of Morton who introduced a similar device to Scotland as the Scottish Maiden which was used from 1564 until 1708

James Douglas WAS executed by means of the Maiden in 1581

Can’t think of how to execute prisoners on death row, eh? There are plenty of Ohioans can come up with a few ideas.

Having been born and raised in OH, i think i can offer a few ideas. Here’s one: bring back hanging. Or how bout the guillotine? Or better yet, kill the criminal in the same manner they killed their victim(s).

I see no reason that the criminals death should be so instantaneous. After all, in many cases their victims didn’t die instantly. They were tortured and/or suffered before they were finally murdered.

Where’d you go, Ohio?
