210,000
That's the amount of money that Conservative party nominee Doug Hoffman raised online in the last seven days in support of his candidacy in the special election in New York's 23rd district, according to a source close to the campaign.
The source would not speculate on what Hoffman's total raised number would be when reports are filed with the Federal Election by midnight tonight. But, his Internet haul almost certainly means he will outdistance state Assemblywoman Dede Scozzafava, the Republican nominee, who, party strategists acknowledge, will post a very weak report. (Hoffman, Scozzafava nor Democrat Bill Owens had filed their reports at press time.)
Hoffman's startling success in raising cash on the web suggests -- as has been made clear in tea party protests and town halls over the spring and summer -- that the conservative base of the Republican party is energized and voting with their feet and their wallets (and often against the picks of the party establishment).
Hoffman's candidacy was born out of a belief that Scozzafava was insufficiently conservative and not entirely committed to the core principles of the party.
It's the same impetus behind Kentucky businessman Rand Paul's Senate bid against establishment pick Trey Grayson, the Secretary of State, and the same basic philosophical divide animating Republican candidates to run or consider primary challenges against nationally favored Senate candidates in New Hampshire, Florida and Colorado.

Excellent—and congratulations on your new job!
Another "DUH!" moment, capped off with a massive understatement.
Go Hoffman...
$25 sent. I’ll draft a letter to Michael Steele next week showing him that the RNC isn’t worth donating to, and that I am only giving to candidates and organizations that reflect my values. In this case, the value Hoffman reflects most is poking the RNC in its collective eye.
And I helped!
Awesome.
Yep, I sent him an email....told him same thing. I will be donating to candidates I support! Not Democrats with an R being placed in front of their names.
ping.
I’ve been wanting to say this for awhile now, and I can’t hold it back any more:
The GOP Party Establishment SUX!
Ah, there. I feel so much better now.
Totally agree!
I just sent in $100.
Let’s send a loud message to the Republican establishment. No more RINOs or DIABLOs.
That is no small contribution.
You rock!
So did I. Supporting all of these candidates in all the other states, as well as my own, is getting quite expensive, but worth it, I hope.
Thanks.
I also got a nicely written email back.
Just sent $15.00. Every bit helps.
He won't get it. Another stuck on stupid.
I sent another $100 after I read your post.
Congratulations and good luck.
I sent 17.76 this afternoon.
sharp pickup. I am convinced that one reason so many public officials have tax troubles...is that it is one mechanism by which the Oligarchs assure fealty.
It looks like Hoffman has the election in the bag, but there is still time for an “October Surprise.”
“Hoffman’s candidacy was born out of a belief that Scozzafava was insufficiently conservative “
Insufficient??
I’ll tell the WORLD!
