CHARACTER
A wise person once said, "You can easily judge the character of a man by how he treats those who can do nothing to him or for him." (author unknown) Columnist Ann Landers put it this way, "The best index of a persons character is how he treats people who can do him absolutely no good." In the Christian Scriptures, the Apostle Paul talks about entertaining "angels unawares." (Hebrews 13:1) What these writers are talking about here is more than an act. Its an attitude - about life, about people, and most importantly, about the dignity and worth of every person. Theyre referring to a life-cultivated habit of treating others with kindness, compassion, generosity and charity. Our true measure is best demonstrated by how we treat those from whom we have nothing personally to gain or lose, in the worlds sense, that is. Allow me to illustrate.
Many years ago reporters gathered at a Chicago railroad station to await the arrival of a newly selected Nobel Prize winner. As the six-feet-four inches tall giant, with bushy hair and a large mustache, stepped off the train, anxious reporters gathered around him. Amidst flashing cameras, important officials extended their hands and voiced how honored they were to meet the Nobel Laureate. He thanked them and then, looking over the crowd, asked to be excused for a moment. With quick steps he walked through the crowd until he reached an elderly woman who was struggling with two large suitcases.
Easily picking up the two bags in his big hands, smiling all the while, he graciously and attentively escorted the woman to a bus. As he helped her aboard, he extended to her his warmest wishes for a safe journey. Meanwhile, the anxious crowd had tagged along behind him, watching and taking in his every move. Turning to them he said, "Sorry to have kept you waiting." The man was Dr. Albert Schweitzer, the world-famous missionary doctor who had spent his life helping the poorest of the poor in Lambarene, Africa.
Said a member of the reception committee to one of the reporters: "Thats the first time I ever saw a sermon walking."

GOD BLESS AND PROTECT OUR TROOPS!
Amazing Grace
by John Newton
Amazing grace! How sweet the sound That saved a wretch like me! I once was lost, but now am found; Was blind, but now I see. . Twas grace that taught my heart to fear, . And grace my fears relieved; How precious did that grace appear The hour I first believed! . Through many dangers, toils and snares, I have already come; Tis grace hath brought me safe thus far, And grace will lead me home. . The Lord has promised good to me, His Word my hope secures; He will my Shield and Portion be, As long as life endures. . Yea, when this flesh and heart shall fail, And mortal life shall cease, I shall possess, within the veil, A life of joy and peace. . The earth shall soon dissolve like snow, The sun forbear to shine; But God, Who called me here below, Will be forever mine. . When weve been there ten thousand years, Bright shining as the sun, Weve no less days to sing Gods praise Than when wed first begun.

Teach Your Children Well
You shall teach [Gods Word] to your children . . . when you sit in your house, when you walk by the way, when you lie down, and when you rise up. Deut. 11:19
The Sleeping Beauty Waltz, the 1812 Overture, and The Nutcracker Suite were all part of the music of my childhood.
Sometimes a narrator told stories oras in the case of Tubby the Tuba and Peter and the Wolfintroduced my sisters and me to the sounds of different instruments. In their desire to pass on their love for music, my parents used this method as a teaching tool. It worked! Weaving the classic tales with classical tunes made a powerful impact on us.
When an adult wants to impart important information to a child, its often best related in a story because it is more easily understood and enjoyed. Telling children the stories in Gods Word is especially crucial because the Bibles enduring truth can shape character and show consequences of actions (1 Cor. 10:11). Tiny seeds of faith can be cultivated in fertile soil and help children to see how God has worked in the lives of His followers throughout history. Bible stories also show how God is intimately involved in our lives.
What we have seen God do for us and what He has done for His people throughout history must be passed on to the next generation (Deut. 11:1-21). Their future depends on it. Teach your children well.
Tell me the story of Jesus,
Write on my heart every word;
Tell me the story most precious,
Sweetest that ever was heard! Crosby

GOD BLESS AND PROTECT OUR TROOPS!
Prayer of St. Ignatius
Teach us, good Lord, to serve Thee as Thou deservest; To give and not to count the cost; to toil And not to seek for rest; to labor and not to ask For any reward, save that of knowing that we do Thy will Through Jesus Christ, our Lord.
St. Ignatius Loyola, Patron Saint of Soldiers

A Prayer Request for Brad's Gramma...
Apologies in advance if you get pinged and shouldn't be.
Just FReepmail me and I'll fix it.
Brad's Gramma just returned from visiting her Dad in hospice in the mid-west. Lots of tensions and a terrible flair up of arthritis took her to the emergency room for tests and x-rays. A call back shows arthritis also in the spine, but more frightening to her, (and I may have the words wrong) a couple potential aneurysms in her upper legs. The doc said 3cm is really bad....one of hers is 2.9, the other 1.6.
She is having a VERY rough time since getting home last night and really needs prayers.
Please address your prayers to Brad's Gramma. Thank you.

He Who blessed our forefathers Abraham, Isaac and Jacob - may He bless the fighters of the Israel Defense Force, who stand guard over our land and the cities of our G-d from the border of the Lebanon to the desert of Egypt, and from the Great Sea unto the approach of the Aravah, on the land, in the air, and on the sea.
May HASHEM cause the enemies who rise up against us to be struck down before them. May the Holy One, Blessed is He, preserve and rescue our fighting men from every trouble and distress and from every plague and illness, and may He send blessing and success in their every endeavor.
May He lead our enemies under their sway and may He grant them salvation and crown them with victory. And may there be fulfilled for them the verse: For it is Hashem, your G-d, Who goes with you to battle your enemies for you to save you.
G-d bless and keep your children safe, Alouette.
