Heterosexual couple sues cruise line after being put on gay cruise

What was billed as Italy's first gay cruise took place last month, and by all accounts it was a resounding success. There was just one small hitch: Somehow a heterosexual couple ended up on board -- and they're not happy about it.

News outlets in Europe this week are all atwitter over the story of the Italian couple, who now are suing the cruise line after reportedly being flummoxed by the experience.

The UK's Daily Mail today reports the middle-aged husband and wife, who have not been named, said they booked the trip directly with the line and claim they were never told of the gay theme. The couple's lawyer tells the news outlet all 1,500 passengers on the ship were gay and events on board were gay-focused.

Not too funny to the non-queers that couldn't get out and walk home!

As Yogi Bear used to say, “They had a gay old time.”

And here was the perfect time for them each to
“find their true selves”.

Gay response.

Not only would I not have wanted to be on that boat, I would also not have wanted to be on a Hells Angels cruise, or a “over 400 pound club” cruise, or whatever. You’d think that the cruise lines would want to protect themselves from bad PR by doing some sort of disclosure when, say, 2/3 of the passengers were booked as part of some sort of affinity group.

The couple was shocked by the amount of seamen on the decks.

I’m not litigious, but I’d sue. I wouldn’t ask for a gazillion dollars, but I’d want a good deal more than the cost of my ticket back. After all, these people were basically prisoners outside of their own rooms for the duration of the cruise. It might have been their annual time-off from work. The cruise line is supposed to provide the venue for the positive experience they advertise, and being the only heteros on a gay cruise isn’t it.

I can understand the couple’s feelings. I got a copy of “Under the Tuscan Sun” at a used bookstore and enjoyed it so when the movie came on tv one night I thought me and my mom would watch it.

Pretty quickly it became apparent that the movie wasn’t following the book. I don’t recall lesbians in the book. Needless to say we turned the channel.

I can only think of how being tricked to be aboard a gay cruise must be like.

I assume the cruise line company doesn’t offer any heterosexual themed cruises? That would be discriminatory..../sarc

If you look at the photo, all appear to be male. The female member of the hetero couple must have felt intimidated and alienated to the max.

Re: “You’d think that the cruise lines would want to protect themselves from bad PR by doing some sort of disclosure when, say, 2/3 of the passengers were booked as part of some sort of affinity group.”

That happened to me on a Royal Caribbean cruise once. It was probably not 2/3rds but a huge crowd of ‘black professionals’ from across the US was on board. Fine, but they monopolized everything as groups tend to do. Their music was played by every band — they took over the pool area, the lounges in the evenings, etc. It wasn’t horrible but I didn’t love it, either.

Another time on another Royal Caribbean cruise there was a contingent of 15 year old Mexican girls and parents for ‘quinceaneras’ — it was wild — not only was it summer so many kids in general, but add to it all those 15 year old girls and whoa — insanity.

It would be nice to be given a choice before booking a cruise date with a big group of any type. I don’t blame the couple in Italy for suing the cruise line since their experience sounds far worse than either of mine.

Sounds like the Movie “Boat Trip” (2004, Cuba Gooding)

Did this couple really piss off some gay travel agent too?
