The punk in New Hampshire who murdered a randomly chosen woman in her home, and slashed her young daughter’s throat was also an Eagle Scout. Let’s not get carried away with the significance of these titles.

no guns - new jersey law made it impossible, and i can’t remember anyone talking about hunting as part of any school related event. that’s odd; there were plenty of hunters around at the time. three gun sellers in the town, lots of fishing and hunting.
lots of the kids in my class carried folding knives, though, usually on a belt sheath.
That is the whole point of these Zero Tolerance policies.
The schools will tell you that these policies are to ensure that all of your kids are kept safe.
The real reason is to avoid having to make judgment calls on who will be punished and who will not.
Making judgment calls risk making a parent agree, it risk litigation if a parent thinks his child was treated differently than some other.
Avoiding litigation has forced school officials in to one size fits all rules.
Politicians!!!
I went to grade school in the 40’s and many times I brought my .22 to shool with ammo so I could hunt after school. I just gave it to the teacher to watch over it. No questions asked. I wonder what todays PC bastards think of that., I imagine like Glenn Beck says, blood would be squirting out of their eyes!! :-)
You forget: This is Obama's West Point.
Now...let's compare that with how public school "prepares" our children today. They are practically treated like prison inmates, many are exposed to violence and sexual abuse at the hands of their fellow classmates and school administrators (and teachers)...education is optional.
The item in question hardly addresses “being prepared to defend himself”. It’s a simple common camping tool, the single most important wilderness survival item, and he chose one entirely unsuitable for any alleged malicious purpose.
Again, IT’S NOT A WEAPON.
"...the possession or use of a weapon of any kind or any other objection [sic] that reasonably can be considered a weapon."
So, possessing an "objection" is an offense. QED: The dirty, smelly, leftist hippies running the school board have prohibited free speech, including "objections!" < /sarcasm>
The fact of his being an Eagle Scout likely makes him something close to persona non grata in his or in any public school and certainly someone the school board and NEA would not want going to West Point, or getting a job for that matter. Why is he in public school at all? Any kid with intelligence and a good moral character should be in private, parochial, or home school.
When I was in 4th grade, when the teacher needed to cut something and couldn’t find her knife she asked one or another of the boys in the class to let her use his pocket knife for a second. There were always several responses.
I can’t help but recall the article 15 I received in the Army for possessing a knife in my barracks room that was not authorized. This kid learned a lesson here and he’s lucky he’s learning it before he gets to west point. What do you think would happen to him at west point if a similar disregard for the rules was demonstrated?
Yep, everyone carried a knife so they could play mumblypeg at recess. The good ole days.
It never goes away. The recipient may never hear about it again and if he investigates may find that there is “nothing there” but it will figure in future job applications and in who the police “suspect” and in government applications.
i have read literary references to that and the only answer i got was, “it’s a game.”
how does one play mumbleypeg?
please enlighten me. thank you.
