And I can go to Barnes and Noble and buy Moby Dick, but it doesn’t make it an actual whale. It’s still a book.

Please re-read what I typed before and understand that I get very frustrated when the Bible is equated to God because it’s supposedly His word. It’s great that you believe that. I have no problem with that. I’m just saying that there are those of us that want some real proof, not old stories and anecdotes.

The Bible is a good book and has many valuable lessons for all of us, but I simply cannot believe in a supreme being who cannot - or will not - make Himself physically known. I can touch a book, I can shake a person’s hand, I can watch a bird fly... but God must be believed in with no tangible proof at all. It makes no sense to me.

If the Large Hadron Collider finds the particle they’re looking for, then maybe God can show up (for real, not in a story or as an albino sheep or any non-Godlike form) and thank the scientists for their great work. Or tell them to knock it off if the scientists are doing something dangerous and wrong.

The proof you desire is abundant in the Bible.

I guess it’s impossible to discuss facts and reality with someone who always goes straight to faith and belief.

If you don’t see the difference between an actual God (if He exists) and a book about God (among other things), there’s no point in continuing. the Moby Dick analogy should have been a clue. Writing a book about something doesn’t prove its existence.

Last chance... “Hey God. If you exist, please show yourself to the masses. Don’t use a book, don’t come to someone in a dream, don’t use a burning bush, don’t use anything other than your actual self. Being all-powerful and creator of everything, surely you can pull off a simple feat like this, right? I humbly ask this of you because it hurts no one and nothing for you to prove your existence. Your failure to do so will be conclusive proof that current believers are no more enlightened than the believers in every fallen religion throughout history. So what’s it gonna be God? I’m serious. Are you real???”

Waiting...

Your remarks remind me of the story of a Missouri Minister during the floods.

As word of the flooding came in, he went house to house telling folks to get out.

He kept doing this until the water was rising on his own house. A man came by in a canoe and offered to take the minister to safety, but the minister refused, saying he had to stay to ensure everyone got out safe.

Soon, the water was rising high enough the minister had to go to his roof. This time the National Guard came by in a motor boat and offered to take him to safety. Still the minister refused, and said he had to care for his flock and ensure no one was left.

The water quickly rose, and soon was reaching the rooftops. A National Guard helicopter came over his house, and told him to climb the ladder to safety. The minister refused, saying he could not leave until he was sure everyone else was safe.

The water rose until it covered his house completely, drowning the minister. The minister next awoke in front of God at the entrance to heaven. The minister pleaded with God and wanted to know, after all that he had done to save others, why God had allowed him to die.

God then said, “I sent two boats and a helicopter, what else did you want?”

Seems like a great alibi anyway. ;') Thanks fanfan.

"Not my fault, honest."

I know. The fault that runs through that area was named for someone else.

It's because of Øbama. He spent all of God's money, and God has been busy trying to get the books to balance again.

He doesn't have a jot or a tittle left to His name. No wonder they can't find a particle.

The LHC is a can’t lose project.
Just as important if they find evidence of the Higgs, or not.

They won’t be able to see tracks from the higgs, it will come apart into other elementary particles almost instantly. They will see tracks from smaller particles created as the higgs destructs. Four large particle detectors will be watching for the particles thrown off from the higgs.

The Bible tells you all that a human can comprehend about God.

One of the important things is that if something as corrupt as a human were to come in contact with him, as you state that you desire, they would be instantly consumed. Only the incorrupt can stand in his presence.

The Bible is all about how to become incorrupt so that you will be able to come into the presence of God. Its the only way, and the alternative is unthinkable.

What you think are facts are temporary, and foolishness according to his word. Why would you not want what is wise and permanent? Our bodies are corrupt and temporary, and the way to life eternal in an incorruptible body can only be found in his word.

God then said, “I sent two boats and a helicopter, what else did you want?”

He wants a little green man to come and say I am God; you have three wishes. He'll waste all the wishes finding out if he really only gets three wishes.

Once you have entered the event horizon of this logical black hole, not even frivolity or light-heartedness will get you out of it.

"That would actually be a more exciting result, but there would be no need to throw out everything they believe."

Yeah, you're right. They should but they won't.

Thirty years ago, the head of a university physics department stated to me, “We know all the important physics now. All that remains is filling in some blanks.”

I was incredulous he said it, and maintained he believes it!

Similar statements have been stated by well known scientists for hundreds of years from time to time.
