I don't want to seem defensive and sound like like I'm "going after" him, but let me explain my initial comment. I imagine there are some crazy leftists out there who think that are about two dozen polar bears left in the wild. Sure, maybe last year there were 22 of 'em, and this year there are 23 -- but surely these are endangered animals. yes? Well, you and I both know that there are lots and lots of polar bears. And as McAleer says, the numbers are increasing, so what's the problem? Well the problem is that Leftists don't see it that way.
The exchange is just Al Gore asking in shock (as many Leftists would) "You don't think they are endangered??" And McAleer saying "Their numbers are increasing." But that doesn't convince Gore that the Polar Bears are out of danger. He asks again "You don't think think they're endangered???" and McAleer says "Their numbers are increasing"
At this point we have a boring, repetitive ping pong match and the organizers cut the mic to get to someone who would ask new questions.
Gore's people behaved badly. I'll say they behaved worse. But McAleer had an opportunity and I think he didn't make the best use of it. That's all I'm saying.
No argument would get through that fat head of his. All he sees is $$$.

It appears Gore was clearly cutting him off at the beginning of the questioning and already shutting him out before he could even make an argument. See #52.
