Thirty-Six Years Ago Today, Richard Nixon Saved Israel—but Got No Credit
Commentary Magazine ^ | October 6th, 2009 | Jason Maoz

Precise details of what transpired in Washington during the first week of the Yom Kippur War, launched by Egypt and Syria on October 6, 1973, are hard to come by, in no small measure owing to conflicting accounts given by Secretary of State Henry Kissinger and Secretary of Defense James Schlesinger regarding their respective roles.

What is clear, from the preponderance of information provided by those directly involved in the unfolding events, is that President Richard Nixon — overriding inter-administration objections and bureaucratic inertia — implemented a breathtaking transfer of arms, code-named Operation Nickel Grass, that over a four-week period involved hundreds of jumbo U.S. military aircraft delivering more than 22,000 tons of armaments.

But most importantly Jews are also urban, through the accident of history in Europe where they were denied the right to own property, and thus became urban. Urban people -— regardless of ethnic or religious background -— are overwhelmingly liberal

Wow.

That is, in all seriousness, a powerful piece of wisdom that hadn't really occured to me before

Thank you.

I remember an old internet article where an acquaintance of Rabin asked him to rate the US presidents he had known, in terms of their relationship with Israel. “Reagan was good. Clinton was terrible. But Nixon.... That man saved Israel.”

Just had to comment. Just seeing the name of that book “Silent Coup” gives me a chill up my spine to think of the evil, back stabbing, conspiracy against Nixon - and our Nation at that time. A great book. Not only a very interesting and gripping tale - but ALL of it is very highly documented as well.

Their was an Admiral Moorer in the book. He was on the same ship as Woodward I believe - even though they both deny it. And Moorer was involved in some shady dealings with trying to hurt someone's influence (Kissinger or someone?) I forget exactly, but I recall a quote of his from that era (mid 70’s) when he was accused of doing something wrong he said something like “It is inconceivable...preposterous that I would be involved.....”

I use a clipping from a magazine article from the 90’s (or so I think) where Moorer was accused of dealing in illegal arms deals. Aircraft or tanks or something, under the guise of museum pieces. When accused, he stated in the magazine article the the exact same words quoted in the book! (”It is inconceivable...preposterous that I would be involved.....”)

What is sad about that, is that is is derivative from that quote from a general during the Mccarthy hearings: 'have you no shame?"

Only a person of integrity has the right to say this.

Admiral Moore was trading on the good reputation of military men, that we would impugn the reputation of the military if we questioned him.

I believe we are now seeing overtly what has been going on covertly in this country for some 70-80 years.

It is good for it to be exposed, but the response to it may be terrifying, if it is made necessary.

Nixon would have sent troops, Vietnam veterans, but chose not to. Why?

All true but Alexander Haig was instrumental in pushing Nixon to do it. Nixon was being impeached and it was hard to get him to move. Some accounts say Haig took a lot of the initiative to authorize weapons transport to Israel due to Nixon being incapacitated. Did it without Nixons signing off on it.

You check enough sources at your leisure and you will find this was Haig’s doing. Nixon was paralyzed due to impeachment. I think Haig did what Nixon wanted to do but just couldn’t flip the switch.

I was watching a program on CCTV about Shanghai last night, and saw a photo of him on a train, acting as a server, towel on arm, etc. It was a rare glimpse at a good man who knew himself... but apparently gave up too easy!

I had heard that Nixon only agreed to the arms shipment when Israel informed him that they were ready to implement their Sampson option. And that Nixon didn’t want to see a nuclear war occur on his watch. (nor risk the Russians thinking it to be American nukes hitting their client states)

Emanuel Winston:
Within a week Israel began to run low on all weapons’ systems and munitions. They pleaded with President Richard Nixon and Secretary of State Henry Kissinger for urgent re-supply but, it was very slow in coming. I recall a report quoting or paraphrasing Henry (Heinrich) Kissinger saying: “Let them (the Israelis) bleed a bit, [presumably, then they would be more willing to surrender their Land for Peace]”.
But, there was one man who didn’t agree with that foot-dragging and forcing the Jews of Israel to “bleed a bit”.

General Alexander Haig, President Nixon’s Chief of Staff, began to open munition stores at American bases in America and in Germany. Out came pallets of artillery shells, TOW missiles and more which were loaded on Galaxy cargo aircraft. Those Galaxies headed toward Israel. As I recall, I had just landed at Ben Gurion Airport at about the time the Galaxies landed and were being unloaded at a fast pace. The planes were carrying artillery shells, TOW missiles and other ammunition I was informed later. (1)

John Loftus, the author of “Secret War Against The Jews: How Western Espionage Betrayed the Jewish People 1920-1992” was a first hand eye-witness on October 6th when Richard Nixon’s chief of staff Gen. Alexander Haig ordered the Infantry Officer Training School at Fort Benning, Georgia to train 40 Israeli commanders to use the TOW (tube-launched, optically-tracked, wire-guided) missile system. Then Loftus briefed the Israelis on the TOW capabilities. The “kill ratio” for the TOW was 97%. Al Haig stripped every TOW missile on the eastern seaboard of America and from Germany and shipped them to Israel. They loaded every TOW in stock on planes. The Israeli commanders were back in Israel by October 14, just in time to repulse a massive Egyptian armored attack in the Sinai with the TOWs. It was the turning point of the war. Haig had saved Henry Kissinger’s reputation by giving Israel the TOWs. (2)

Skipping a few things and days, I found myself in the Sinai Desert, meeting with then General Ariel (Arik) Sharon in what he called: “the killing fields”, burned tanks and army trucks dotted the landscape as if they were placed neatly on a giant chess board - with bodies scattered in the sand. Once you smell a dead body, cooking in the sun, you never forget.

If not for General Haig’s re-supply of weapons and Israel’s extraordinarily brave fighters, that scene could have been repeated all the way to Tel Aviv.

Emanuel Winston (author) can be trusted on this. He doesn’t write shyte

I have read that account before....In fact (last I looked) it is the only one on the internet giving proper credit to Alexander Haig. This information may appear in books but not on the ‘net.

Many years ago I was told by a truly staunch Jew that Alexander Haig should get the credit. My guess is that Haig initiated the shipments and Nixon was too chicken to stop them and look like the fool. Haig boxed him in. But I still give Nixon credit for helping out Israel in its most dire straits

Lol lol lol lol
These days we could never do this because it would take years to replenish that stock of TOWs.......Due to weakened manufacturing capabilities

From what I can see, the only thing that brought Kissinger, whom I despise, around was his belief that the US could not afford to allow the Soviets to “win” the war since they were very publicly supplying weapons to, and outspoken in their support for, the arabs in the region.
He aquiesced, not for Israel’s sake, but to save face for the US.
Had Kissinger had his way, Israel might never have recovered from that attack. He is a despicable human being.
From Haaretz:

Book says Kissinger delayed telling Nixon about Yom Kippur War

Newly released documents show that former United States Secretary of State Henry Kissinger delayed telling President Richard Nixon about the start of the Yom Kippur War in 1973 to keep him from interfering, according to new book excerpted in Vanity Fair on Monday.

“Nixon and Kissinger: Partners in Power” is by presidential historian Robert Dallek, who spent four years reviewing the Nixon administration’s recently opened archives, including 20,000 pages of Kissinger’s telephone transcripts and hundreds of hours of Nixon tapes.

The historian says that after Egypt and Syria attacked Israel on October 6, 1973, the Israelis informed Kissinger at 6 a.m., about 3 and a half hours passed before he spoke to Nixon.
