WASHINGTON (AFP) By openly declaring their views on the Afghan war, US military leaders have placed President Barack Obama in a bind as he faces a fraught decision over the troubled US-led mission.
Obama has refused to quickly approve a request from his commanders for a major troop build-up in Afghanistan, insisting first on a full vetting of the current strategy.
But while a war council takes place behind closed doors at the White House, top military officers have made no secret of their view that without a vast ground force, the Afghan mission could end in failure.
"They want to make sure people know what they asked for if things go wrong," Lawrence Korb, a former assistant secretary of defense, told AFP.
As a result, if Obama chooses to change course in Afghanistan or decline a request for large numbers of troops, he will be rejecting the advice of the US military, raising the political stakes.

Well our military is seeing what the whole world sees ,Obama is a weak Imbecile. I prefer to look at it from the point of view that they are TRYING to guide him to Victory ,as difficult as that is since he doesnt believe in it,so the only option is to clobber the dolt over the head with it
“I had to take a break and kind of calm myself down.”
That’s what I ended up doing yesterday for the same reasons. I spent the day sewing, listening to music and quietly praying. If we are this upset just reading about it all...can you imagine how our soldiers are feeling? It’s almost inconceivable. Time to get back on the horn today and call the senatorial and congressional sacks on the armed services committee once again.
When the 4 soldiers were killed in the ambush a few weeks ago, I called every single member on the house and senate armed services committees. Only one member wrote me back and then it was just a form letter expressing support for our troops and the mission. Several members had patriotic and military songs playing background music while I was on hold. It frankly pissed me off at the time because it seemed almost patronizing and insincere. There I was....with tears and simmering outrage boiling up inside..listening to some senator’s patriotic music while their staff member decided what to do with the ‘crazy’ woman on hold. Most of the staff that I spoke to had no idea that the men had been refused air support or of the particulars that surrounded the incident. It’s was infuriating. These are the people that we pay to know what in the hell is going on and they haven’t a clue. Is it because they read their news from a corrupt and morally bankrupt press? Should we give them a pass? I think not. If we can find the truth about this stuff..they sure as heck can too!
OMG! This is chilling!

Reverend Wright: Thanks for posting the actual info on the book that Obama’s policy wonks are reading. I kind of figured the book would slant that way. Liberals are so predictable.
Now we have this as additional proof that these people are in dereliction of duty and abusing power!
IMPEACH NOW! IT’S TIME!

That young boy, standing straight and tall, is already 10X the man Zero will ever be. Pray our country survives this moron-in-chief.
Any blood shed from that point on is completely on Obama’s hands publicly whether the press tries to put it on the back page or not.
All that is now PALE in comparison to Obama’s Fairy Tale world of warfare.
What is so friggin hard with committing to winning a war you engage in and backing OUR troops 110%? If you aren't willing to do this you have no business being in it to begin with.
I like what BP2 said at #67. We need to continue to speak out plainly on this topic. Obama is now backed into an uncomfortable corner on all of this and the whole world is watching.
I will always support our Troops and THEIR mission as long as they are in Afghanistan. However, THEIR mission (to win) is the polar opposite of what the TOTUS is willing to do or bolster. He hasn't served a day in his life in the military and Bill Ayer’s is as close to warfare as he's ever stepped.
GOOD ON YA! Stay over the target.:)
The rulers in power now could care less about anything but polls and politics.
Afghanistan and the fate of our troops will be "managed" as a political event from week to week and depending on what the polls tell them to do they will do. For them its all a game of power, money and influece. Matters not whether they put zero in Copenhagen, out on the campaign circuit for obamacare, cap and tax or whatever its all agenda vs. polling.
The only "hope" we have of any "change" is to out maneuver them politically. That means getting the message out that our troops are being used as pawns in a cynical game of recreating the US into a socialist empire.
Krauthammer is a brilliant mind....praying for our troops!
