WASHINGTON (AFP) By openly declaring their views on the Afghan war, US military leaders have placed President Barack Obama in a bind as he faces a fraught decision over the troubled US-led mission.
Obama has refused to quickly approve a request from his commanders for a major troop build-up in Afghanistan, insisting first on a full vetting of the current strategy.
But while a war council takes place behind closed doors at the White House, top military officers have made no secret of their view that without a vast ground force, the Afghan mission could end in failure.
"They want to make sure people know what they asked for if things go wrong," Lawrence Korb, a former assistant secretary of defense, told AFP.
As a result, if Obama chooses to change course in Afghanistan or decline a request for large numbers of troops, he will be rejecting the advice of the US military, raising the political stakes.

The White House meanwhile acknowledged some members of Obamas team have been reading Lessons in Disaster, a book about flawed decision-making in the Vietnam war.
Richard Holbrooke reviewed this book for the NY Times.

The book is centered around McGeorge Bundy (Kennedy and Johnson NSC head). Bundy was reflecting years later on the mistakes he made. Bottom line, “the doves were right”. They should have just thrown Vietnam to the wolves.
Hussein is going to piss away all the sacrifices that the US, British, Canadians etc. have made, and the only criteria will be the politics for him.
Obama is about as useless as my Dog's feces and he smells twice as bad.
Oral Reading Circle at the White House.
Ping to Flyer per our earlier conversations on another thread.
Likely they are reading this book to learn the lessons on how the democrats and the media turned Americans against the Vietnam war by not providing a clear strategy or support for our troops in the field. They want to repeat the process and get out with the backing of the American people. They dont care if they sacrifice our troops in the process. The idea is to get out with political cover.
PURE EVIL!
Thanks for the Ping. I've been gone all day but couldn't stop thinking about that other thread connecting the dots. THERE was your Ping when I got back. I am more scared for our troops under this Nimrod than ever! Is "Lessons in Disaster" their new tactical handbook? You're right. PURE EVIL!
One spot of hope, upper ranks are speaking out for our boots on the ground. Obama must be forced away from his childish Olympian type escapades and deal with this.
Your are right. PURE EVIL!
May God protect our Troops.
“Obama has yet to publish a National Security Strategy as required by Goldwater/Nichols. The US Military is rudderless all over, not just in Afghanistan.”
Thanks for not letting that go. Maybe he thinks NATO and the U.N. will handle it for him?

Oh it’s true alright.....go back and look at the MSM stories from right after the election....a push poll here...change the ROE’s..get higher casualty rate...push poll again....see the american people are tired of war...cut and run...
It’s actually pretty damn transparent when you get the eye for such things...
He want the progressive vote for health care....so he’s dragging his feet while our troops die for political gain.
Me too Joe. Those faces...:(
I’m so mad right now. DAMN IT, just bring them home, all of them. The looks on their faces in that photo you posted is devastating to me. Bring them home!!! Let them protect our borders. Don’t leave our brave men and women their to be slaughtered. :(
Picture @ post #48, heartbreaking.
I just found this. THIS is something that might be going on in the minds of the idiots in this administration. They would rather deconstruct OUR COUNTRY than be bothered with WINNING A WAR!!!

At a White House dinner with a group of historians at the beginning of the summer, Robert Dallek, a shrewd student of both the Kennedy and Johnson administrations, offered a chilling comment to President Obama.
“In my judgment,” he recalls saying, “war kills off great reform movements.” The American record is pretty clear: World War I brought the Progressive Era to a close. When Franklin D. Roosevelt was waging World War II, he was candid in saying that “Dr. New Deal” had given way to “Dr. Win the War.” Korea ended Harry Truman’s Fair Deal, and Vietnam brought Lyndon Johnson’s Great Society to an abrupt halt.

“WAR KILLS OFF GREAT REFORM MOVEMENTS.”
OH MY GOD!!!
Do something!
We have an evil Marxist in the WH. Look at his friends, look at his czars, look at the people he surrounds himself with. He doesn’t give a shit about this country. In fact he despises it. He loves himself, power and money. I hope our military is watching and keeping Honduras in mind.
