Boston Herald columnist Howie Carr is apparently okay after crashing his car into a telephone pole in Wellesley Sunday morning.
According to police, the 57-year-old scribe and WRKO talk-show host was driving south on Wellesley Avenue, between Oakland and Forest streets, when his 2004 Acura suddenly crossed into the oncoming lane, hit a curb, and slammed into a telephone pole.
Wellesley police Sgt. Marie Cleary said Carr refused medical treatment and the car was towed. (The pole was split in half.) Carr was cited for a marked-lanes violation. "There were no signs of alcohol or anything suspicious of that nature," Cleary said yesterday. "It's a windy road there. I'm not sure if he was distracted for a moment."

I wonder if he was on his way there?
What’d he do? Run into the Hillary Statue?..............
see post 31 for clues

So Howie Carr turned left of center and wound up in trouble with the law. That can be said of a lot of people down in Washington.
A Wellesley Wrench PING.
He’s gonna have to shuck and jive and shell out some dough................
They might need . . . A Wellesly Winch.
It was a Carr wreck.
I guess we will find out tonight.
About 6:35 or so he started to read the Globe story and he took a few calls about it though he also did another topic. As soon as the jokes started to come about the big shoe or fried clams he said, “I knew it—this is why I waited till now to talk about it. Now there will be a bunch of calls on the Chump Line tomorrow about it.”
Readers of the Globe’s site and people on Free Republic were aware of the situation before Howie’s show. Howie explained that it was probably bald tires and a slick road that caused it. He noted that the Globe reporter had
asked if alcohol was involved “and I bet they were disappointed it wasn’t”. When someone brought up fried
clams he said, “it was 8:30 on a Sunday morning, who’s eating fried clams then?” The bit about the “marked
lanes violation: ‘it was a warning,’ says Howie.
Howie’s Acura will be in the shop for a couple weeks; as I noted; Howie Carr is fine, Howie’s car...not so fine.

Herald columnist Howie Carr was heading home from the newspaper Sunday morning when his sport-utility vehicle slid across the road and slammed into a telephone pole in his hometown of Wellesley.
Im fine. Nothing happened to me, Carr said yesterday. I just slid over the center lane. It was raining, it was windy, and I was going down a hill.
I tried to pull out, I couldnt and I hit the pole, said Carr, who was driving a 2004 Acura SUV. Im definitely buying new tires for it.
Police gave him a written warning for a marked lanes violation.
Carr, also a WRKO (680-AM) talk host, said he was on way his home from the Herald newsroom, where hed picked up his mail.
Police said Carr was driving south on Wellesley Avenue just before 8:30 a.m. when he crossed into the northbound lane, struck a curb and hit the utility pole.
Carr declined medical treatment, and his vehicle was towed.
