BIG CREEK, Ky. (AP) - A part-time census worker found hanging in a rural Kentucky cemetery was naked, gagged and had his hands and feet bound with duct tape, said an Ohio man who discovered the body two weeks ago.
Jerry Weaver of Fairfield, Ohio, told The Associated Press on Friday that he was among a group of relatives who discovered the body of 51-year-old Bill Sparkman on Sept. 12.
"The only thing he had on was a pair of socks," Weaver said. "And they had duct-taped his hands, his wrists. He had duct tape over his eyes, and they gagged him with a red rag or something.

Rural areas are actually best for a meth lab. A while back I read a story about a realtor finding the remains of a meth lab in a house she was selling. Apparently empty homes are ideal for one time use meth labs.
They never did take kindly to “Revenuers” in the KY & TN hills.
Gosh....how tragic. :(
I would guess that folks down there thought he was snooping for reasons other than the census.
Drugs are grown in that forest from what I have heard.
Whenever drugs are involved unspeakable crimes happen.
I’m guessing he stumbled on a meth lab and “saw to much” or on a Mexican drug / illegal alien smuggling gang hideout, who then decided to make an example out of a lone unarmed “gringo” federale, Mexican style.
I don’t think so. I think they tied him up and suffocated him with a plastic bag. then hung the corpse as a message.
The police said yesterday that they hadn’t ruled out suicide. If all this was true, they would have ruled it out?
It was very sad. I still hope for justice.

Not if the hands and feet were bound, it's not. Also, the person who found him said his census ID was taped to his shoulder.
They have already pinned this on "anti-government" types as they also throw in "too early to know for sure". There have been several articles.
That’s interesting. But how do you draw from that that it is not drug related?
Thanks.
I don’t believe for a second this was done by an organized group of drug producers. They would know the wrath of God would be poured out on them over this. This was done by an individual (or 2 at most). Most likely a serial murderer type. Organized drug producers would have made the guy just disappear. The last thing they want is federal law enforcement snooping around. This was done by somebody who wanted the body to be found. Not in some attempt to scare others away, but simply to make themselves feel powerful by making the “ants” (normal people) scurry around looking for an answer. In the mean time, look for the media to use this as to attack conservatives.
Are they being obtuse, or are there so many laws and rules now on what we can say and how we can say it that the only safe thing to say is the stupidest possible thing?
Anyway, I doubt this is drug related ... if there was a pot farm or meth lab in the area the last thing they would want is for cops to be swarming the place.
It a very bizarre crime.
I don’t.
I only meant this was NOT a plain old lynching. They weren’t attempting a vigilante style justice. They were attempting scare tactics and thuggery. They made a sign out of his corpse. Plain and simple.
there will be more of this kind of thing.

I learned a thing or two from ol Charlie dont you know
You better stay away from Copperhead Road
I think you give these drug dealers way too much credit for intelligence. I remember quite a few years ago a bunch of teenagers happened on a group of drug smugglers near Panama City, FL.
The smartest thing they could have done was just scare them off and get out of the area. Instead they murdered them all and eventually got caught. It did take a long time tho.
Apparently there are a lot of drug operations in the area.

So?...When I hear the term “drug operations”, what do I think of first? Liberal? or Conservative?
I wonder if he stumbled across a still or a meth lab. Mountain people don’t like “revenoors” anyway, and it’s a pretty broad classification.
