Last night, for reasons I don’t recall, I contemplated which people are the most bada$$ on earth.
The Turks, The Irish, The Hun, and others all made the list.
But, I came to the conclusion that historically the Scots have got to be the most bada$$ people on the planet. Period.
Wearing a skirt and knee-highs tends to lend itself to a special kind of bad-assedness. Who else on the planet could get away with that and not be made fun of?
“Scots have got to be the most bada$$ people on the planet.”
Got that right. I married one.
256 died in the battle. Another 100 were taken prisoner.
So, who were these guys? Amazingly the majority were descendants of the people who founded the old New Sweden Colony. A smaller group were descendants of the Catholics who founded the settlements starting at St. Mary's in the South. Others were Irish of recent vintage but they knew what they were about.
So you're coming pretty close to the baddest badasses on the planet, but it looks like the same old mix that started in the Orkneys over a thousand years ago.
I am of Scottish heritage. I can tell you, you will find no better friend, nor a worse enemy. LOL
Yep, and we are going to rise up here on the new continent, again. We’re tired of this pussyfooting around. Time for head-crackin’.
I’m Irish, Scots, Welsh and Danish.
[and I’m the nastiest 95 pounds on earth]....LOL!
THE GURKHA SOLDIER It’s been said “Bravest of the brave,
most generous of the generous, never had country
more faithful friends than you.”
You’re right. This son of Vikings married a Scots woman and has been brought to his knees.
On a trip to Scotland a few years ago, I bought and read two books about Scots and Scottish history. As near as I could discern it seems most rulers had their tenures cut short by being killed by other kingdom-seeking individuals. All the way up to Robert the Bruce.

Probably. The Scotch Highlander immigrants of the 17th/18th century found a lot in common with my Cherokee ancestors and several married into their clan. They had many of the same customs, ceremonies.....neither could pass up a good fight.
After fighting in the revolution my Scottish fourth grgrandfather married a Cherokee woman.
Created quite a blend that became a very interesting clan!
