Court sets execution date for Washington, DC sniper mastermind
A Virginia judge has ruled that the mastermind behind the 2002 sniper attacks in Washington, DC that left 10 people dead will be executed on November 10. John Allen Muhammad is expected to appeal to the U.S. Supreme Court and ask Governor Timothy M. Kaine for clemency.
Muhammad was sentenced to death for the slaying of Dean Meyers, one of 10 people shot to death during a 2002 rampage that terrorized the Washington, D.C., area.
uhammad and teenage accomplice Lee Boyd Malvo killed six people in Alabama and Louisiana before moving on to Maryland, D.C. and Virginia, where Meyers was shot at a Manassas gas station. Six others were wounded. Malvo, who was born in Jamaica, is serving life in prison for the shooting spree. Last month a federal appeals court rejected Muhammad's argument that prosecutors withheld critical evidence and that Muhammad never should have been allowed to act as his own attorney for a portion of his trial because he was too mentally impaired.

Malvo testified that Muhammad, driven by hatred of America because of its “slavery, hypocrisy and foreign policy” and his belief that “the white man is the devil”, planned to kill six whites a day for 30 days.
Malvo alleged that Muhammad had said: “We are going to go to the Washington DC area and we are going to terrorise these people.”
They then intended to move to Baltimore for stage two of their campaign, to shoot a policeman and then blow up explosives at his funeral.
More explosives would target the ambulances that would then rush to the funeral. Another plan to kill three busloads of schoolchildren was thwarted because the pair were arrested when Malvo fell asleep while keeping watch at a Maryland petrol station.
Muhammad’s ultimate plan, Malvo testified, was to indoctrinate 140 young homeless men at a Canada compound who would “shut things down” in cities across America, unless they received £5 million.

Well it’s a matter of opinion, but definitely a bit more than mere presumption since the execution date has been set, and on drivetime news radio this afternoon a Virginia law enforcement official was being interviewed about the preps being made, and he stated that many victim families had called him today saying how much they want to attend the execution.
FBI employee Linda Franklin was shot less than a mile from where I’m sitting right now, in my local Home Depot parking lot. Malvo and Muhammad were stopped *three separate times* by Fairfax County PD right near my house (a little reported factoid).
As one who went through this with the rest of DC Metro for 4 weeks, I can tell you quite clearly that a LOT of people want these guys g-o-n-e.
Maybe. Although, even with the full-frontal attack on McDonnell by WaPo, he continues to enjoy a comfortable margin on Deeds. So, perhaps the reports of Virginia going completely "blue" are a bit premature.
Having said that, I'm also a little concerned about Kaine - a touchy-feely kind of Catholic - granting clemency in his last weeks in office. But, I was living in DC at the time of this and I can tell you the terror and outrage at the perps was visceral, like nothing I've seen before. There's still a blood-thirst for revenge, even today and even in the mostly liberal area of Norther Virginia. Long story short, I don't think Mohammad should be making any long-term estate planning.

Eric Holder’s DOJ will take care of this problem—they’ll launch an investigation into the police departments and prosecutors.
That information warms my heart. I figured that was the case since they were issuing a date. California would probably take 25 years to name a date, and then the appeals would start all over again. If you're gonna have a death penalty, use it early and often.

I understand the sentiment, but not on the taxpayer's dime. The sentence should be carried out on schedule.

In Virginia? Not many.
The liberal voters in Northern Virginia seem to have fostered the impression that all of Virginia has gone to the liberal dogs.
Not so.
