Remember folks, ACORN was funded by the BUSH ADMINISTRATION
Vanity | 9-15-09 | Dangus

A lot of Republicans are in a foamy rage against the grass roots, whom they feel failed to be adequately supportive of the Bush administration, helping the Democrats take over Congress in 2006. A lot are showing up on Free Republic making comments to the effect that Obama's communist regime is what we get when we fail to stand up for the Republican Party. But the fact is that President Obama was merely an employee of sorts of ACORN. President Bush was the one who funded it with millions of dollars of taxpayer funds. President Bush's justice department broke banks' arms to force them to lend money to Alt-A and subprime lenders, ruling that failure to provide equal loan access to illegal alien day laborers at the same rate they gave loans to well-establishd, middle-class, financially sound Americans they would prosecuted for discrimination on the basis of national origin.

The Bush administration's EPA gave ACORN $100,000 for ACORN's Louisiana Environmental Justice Project in 2004. President Bush's Department Housing and Urban Development $8.2 million from 2003 to 2006, and another $1.6 million to other affiliates since 2003. Even the Justice Department gave NYC's ACORN office $136,000.

President Bush's rabid fixation on growing "civil-rights" organizations led directly to the housing boom and burst, as millions of "upside-down" home owners had no money put into their homes, and no identity, so they lost nothing when walking away from their loans as soon as they went under.

President Obama is a radical unlike any ever elected President, but the answer is not to simply vote Republican. Vote conservative. If that means voting Republican, great: there are many conservatives in Congress who deserve re-election. But that doesn't mean voting for liberal Republicans like former Rep. Simmons, running for Senate in Connecticut, Rep. Castle, running for Senate in Delaware, or Rep. Kirk, running for Senate in Illinois. The surest way to destroy America is to settle for Republican socialists, believing that they are more electable than conservatives. All that accomplishes is pushing the center hard to the left, discrediting conservatism, and giving the radical left the cover of "bipartisanship."

Voting 3rd Party = electing Democrats.

For reference see 1992 and 1996.

Big deal...

As I think you can tell for yourself, from a sampling of the replies, the former president "belongs to the ages," and is no longer counted among Principled Conservatives, though he may certainly be more typical of Republicans.

If the president was as clueless as Charlie Gibson claims to be about the corrupt monster ACORN has always been, what of it?

“ACORN was funded by the BUSH ADMINISTRATION”

And that is one reason why our Tea Party protests and other grass roots protests are opposed to the big government, high tax, Nanny State politics of both parties.

Even when/if we are able to run many democrats out of office we cannot rely on the Republican party to be much better. The two parties fight among themselves for the right to pluck taxpayers clean.

If Republicans are returned to power they will not roll back the egregious political over-reaching democrats are forcing on us today. Over the past eight years they have shown they have no claim to being fiscal conservatives or advocates of a less intrusive, amaller government.

They speak in opposition to liberal, big government policies today but did little to change or eliminate these same policies when they had the power to do so.

Facts are facts so let the chips fall where they may. The whole bunch in D.C. needs to be cleaned out, on both sides of that so-called aisle. I’m sick of all of them.

You certainly may be right. But the public is at least getting some hard info on these folks and their ties to SEIU and Obama. The 2010 election cycle is still the best chance near-term to make the systemic changes necessary to eliminate ACORN and put SEIU on the blocks.

I understand your point, but typically what the democrats will do is put funding for ACORN and other stuff into a bill that they know the president is going to sign - like funding for better body armor for soldiers, etc.

That’s what you get when you elect a “compassionate conservative” instead of a true patriot who wants to uphold the constitution. As if freedom, and the opportunity that comes with it, are not enough.

In many cases: Congress authorizes grants; the administration selects beneficiaries. These are among those cases.

I doubt you will find many on the board, except for RINO's and Liberals, that will say Bush was a Conservative. In Fact many of a Conservative mindset, myself included, blame Bush for bringing the current admin to power.

Having said that, unlike the current resident in the WH, I don't believe Bush was an active member of ACORN and they sure as hell did not "Get out the Vote" for Bush.

It is important to remember that there were TWO distinct GWBs, and I am just talking #43.

One was a social conservative, and the other was a fiscal liberal. Not only was he fiscally liberal, he was fiscally irresponsible. And now an illiterate electorate has handed an arsonist gasoline in which to put out the fire.

This is an important fact to use when discussing BDS with dems. You get them everytime.

And welcome Obama to a second term

Third parties bombed last year because we listened to the Demopublicans here a voted for a pro-bailout socialist to stop another pro-bailout socialist. Despite the fact the fact that Obama won a MAJORITY, the Demopublicans will never admit that they were wrong and keep promoting the same Demopublican socialists.

No rational person cares when it started. All rational people want is stopped. ALL funds MUST be choked off...pronto.

The information we have now and received during the last national election should be MORE THAN ENOUGH to freeze their racket. We do as much to the dealings of terrorists, why not the same and worse for home-grown criminals, thieves and liars? Do American Congressmen need the house to fall on them or are they themselves SO inured to corruption that the activities of ACORN do not appear the least bit irregular????

Except that the Republicans ran Congress in the years I wrote about... and this was grant money where the HUD, DOJ and EPA selected recipients
