A Proposal: Rather Than a New Party, Why Not a Citizens-Directed Constitutional Organization?
vanity | 9/13/09 | Jobim

Many of us are having discussions today about the meaning of the gatherings yesterday. I am sure many are thinking in terms of a new political party. I would suggest another direction.

The pitfalls of a 3rd party have been made manifest many times in the past. Furthermore, some of our Founding Fathers warned of the dangers of party loyalty. How else might we hold fast to Constitutionalism/Conservatism/Capitalism/ and not be held hostage to a political party whose members too frequently clash with these principles?

I suggest a permanently grass-roots association of patriots who strictly adhere to the idea of nationhood as delineated by our Founding Fathers. We would become a monolithic voting block and government watchdog, united by all forms of electronic media. No tax returns, no hierarchy; just Americans who will hold all government officials to a sacred trust as derived from Constitutional principles. Glenn Beck's 5 Principles can be our blueprint.

We can refer to ourselves as:

American Constitutional Trust (ACT)

American Heritage Dictionary definition of TRUST:

1)Firm reliance on the integrity, ability, or character of a person or thing.
2)Custody; care.
3)Something committed into the care of another; charge.
a)The condition and resulting obligation of having confidence placed in one: violated a public trust.
b)One in which confidence is placed.
5)Reliance on something in the future; hope.
6)Reliance on the intention and ability of a purchaser to pay in the future; credit.
7)Law
a)A legal title to property held by one party for the benefit of another.
b)The confidence reposed in a trustee when giving the trustee legal title to property to administer for another, together with the trustee's obligation regarding that property and the beneficiary.
c)The property so held.
8)A combination of firms or corporations for the purpose of reducing competition and controlling prices throughout a business or an industry.

* an association of volunteers unified in having our government conform to the Constitution, and to its mission statement the Declaration of Independence

* these volunteers will be linked coast to coast by the common purpose of electing officials and monitoring government business in relation to the foundational documents as stated above

* ACT will not be a political party - any person seeking elective office may receive the support of ACT by pledging to uphold the tenets of ACT (ie foundational documents)

I understand your frustration - and your desire to protect the country for your grandkids. I feel the same about wanting to protect this wonderful land.

But here's the problem - the tea party movement can't be watered down. It's important. Neither party can claim it - even thought the people in it tend to be conservative - they're not necessarily Republican. And that's good. Put your ideas out there - we all need to do that ... and see what happens.

I suspect many of the people there were there so they could hand a good country to their grandkids... It's the best gift we can give them.

Sounds like a good idea.

My problem with grassroots organizing, like what was intended with the Tea Parties, was the inevitable involvement and attempts to commandeer by outside organizations with agendas of their own. For instance, in the case of Freedom Works...a friend on some issues, but for me, a foe when it comes to their position on immigration reform.

I couldn’t agree more.

However there will always be those...even here on FR...who will settle for whomever they believe to be ‘electable’, regardless of less than conservative positions...i.e., FR itself is very divided when it comes to comprehensive immigration reform (amnesty). It’s one issue over which I refuse to budge.

Alcoholics Anonymous is a perfect business model for this idea.

This new constitutional group doesn't need leaders or personalities.

It has to be about the pure ideas. The constitution!

Establish the principles and practice them in all our affairs.

Beck is already on the right track.

I am sure with the current group in power now, a little anonymity might be a benefit. going forward too.

Hard to Alinsky a movement with no personalities to attack.

No party affiliation just conservative minded folks.

Anyone that wants to protect the constitution as written and follow the principles is welcome to join.

No membership fee. Donate if you can, your support will suffice for membership if you cannot afford to donate.

No political donations, no money from corporations or alignment with special interests, no politicians.

Small private donations only.

Anyone interested need do as much or as little as they can.
Suit up and show up!

Move the muscles and the minds will follow!!!!!!!

All members become leaders... they lead by example.

Grow by attraction to the movement rather than promotion!!!!

Let's Roll!!

Can we lose the tea bag thing?

I don’t believe the tea bag was invented until much later than 1776.

The analogy to tea bagging the left is bashing us with makes me sick.

Sometimes a bad trade name kills the product.

ACT is too close to ACT UP.

The tea bagging moniker is more abuse than we can take already.

But the core idea is excellent.

It’s great - it’s part of our history. Liberals are creepy little people - ignore them. Why let them ruin a good thing? Teabagging is who THEY are - NOT who WE ARE.... WE are proud citizens who know our founding fathers threw tea into a river to protest for a freedom. It’s a thing to be proud of...

Here’s an ACORN troll slapping a tea party member in DC... might cheer you up. Maybe with any luck it’ll be in Beck and they guy will sue the twerps.

I beleive a single 4 year term is simply not long enough to manage nor lead effectively. Whereas 6 years would. Impeachment and the threat of Impeachment would be a necessary tool to have in the kit-bag for situations such as currently have.

The biggest obstical is “pure” majority, all three of four branches. Impeachment must have some other unbiased trigger to get around the packed majority. Then again maybe that is precisely what 2010 is intended to do, re-balance a run away 3 branch majority.

One six year term, a vote every two years to see if we dump the President or not. A no vote is an automatic impeachment, with a new election to be held in 1 month from the no vote. A yes vote he/she continues for the next two years. I think it has merit.
