After more than 15 years of slime, race-baiting, misogeny and shameless self-promotion, Michael Savage is off the air in his hometown market, San Francisco.
KNEW announced his departure on its Web site, with an unsigned note from a guy who looks like he's in management, or a character from the Sopranos.
"Here's your no-spin direct answer; we have decided to go in a different philosophical and ideological direction, featuring more contemporary content and more local information. The Savage Nation does not fit into that vision."
Let's read between the lines. It's not hard. Savage was expensive. Clear Channel, the owner, likes to save money. Savage, despite some popularity, has not helped the station climb out of 29th place in the local ratings. Bye bye.
Add to this the fact that Savage has been doing the last hour of his show as an infomercial format and misses a lot of shows, and you have the prima donna getting the boot.
Philosophical differences? Please. The station still has Glenn Beck, who is vying for Savage's sleaze leading position; Roger Hedgecock; and some guy named Schnit, who continues the Republican party line.
What really gives you the answer is what he has been replaced with: the syndicated John and Ken show from Los Angeles, which fits the station's pattern of getting more for their cheap channel bucks. The morning affair is a syndicated SF/Sacramento show that is virtually unlistenable.
I wish I could say that this will be the last the Bay sees of Savage, but as a betting man, I predict that he will be signed by Mickey Luckoff and Jack Swanson over at KSFO, the ones who brought him to us in the first place. Those guys announced their new liberal night host John Rothmann today, and I won't be surprised if that was to offset a Savage announcement. I'd be glad to be proven wrong.
He burned way too many bridges to go back to KSFO.
Anti American Bastards !
Funny how no one comes to your aid after you've alienated everyone.
Ohhhhhhhhhhh...........
So that’s why Levin was telling him not to jump..
is that true about the last hour being infomercial format? What does that mean exactly
Because it’s better to be friends with a phony...
That's the main reason I don't listen nearly as much as I used to.
What did Levin say?
Basically his last hour is a rebroadcast of his first hour. It’s not live, like the first 2 hours. And sometimes, his second hour is filled up w/ canned, pretaped “interviews”.
No ratings
No air time
He is a bit self aggrandizing.
I hate those canned interviews. Fortunately, I’ve discovered Lars Larson who broadcasts on another station at the same time.
sounds like he’s tired of his job.
Don’t blame him he’s been doing it a long time
He’s even admitted over the last couple of months that the only reason he’s still doing it is to get himself taken of Britian’s “Do Not Fly” list. Yeah, makes me want to listen.
“No ratings, no air time.”?
4th biggest talk radio audience in the country equals “no ratings”? Maybe not up there in homo central, but apparently the rest of the country thinks differently.
The third hour of Savage with those pretaped segments is simply horrible. He would be better off taking a sidekick and having him or her run those interviews live, as opposed to taped. I haven’t listened to it in ages.
Unlike Rush Limbaugh.
