Apparently, to a lot of folks tonight, it means never having to say you’re sorry.

I was hoping for more post-graduate work, where we require citation of other peer reviewed commentary.

”post-graduate work”

I thought you wanted good one liners. Such as:
“We have a Republic ma'am if you can keep it.”

Or a Republic is not a very good system of government until you look at all the others.

The best explination I know of was presented by Red Skelton.

As a schoolboy, one of Red Skelton's teachers explained the words and meaning of the Pledge of Allegiance to his class. Skelton later wrote down, and eventually recorded, his recollection of this lecture. It is followed by an observation of his own.

I - - Me; an individual; a committee of one.
Pledge - - Dedicate all of my worldly goods to give without self-pity.
Allegiance - - My love and my devotion.
To the Flag - - Our standard; Old Glory ; a symbol of Freedom; wherever she waves there is respect, because your loyalty has given her a dignity that shouts, Freedom is everybody's job.
United - - That means that we have all come together.
States - - Individual communities that have united into forty-eight great states. Forty-eight individual communities with pride and dignity and purpose. All divided with imaginary boundaries, yet united to a common purpose, and that is love for country.
And to the Republic - - Republic--a state in which sovereign power is invested in representatives chosen by the people to govern. And government is the people; and it's from the people to the leaders, not from the leaders to the people.
For which it stands
One Nation - - One Nation--meaning, so blessed by God.
Indivisible - - Incapable of being divided.
With Liberty - - Which is Freedom; the right of power to live one's own life, without threats, fear, or some sort of retaliation.
And Justice - - The principle, or qualities, of dealing fairly with others.
For All - - For All--which means, boys and girls, it's as much your country as it is mine.
And now, boys and girls, let me hear you recite the Pledge of Allegiance:
I pledge allegiance to the Flag of the United States of America, and to the Republic, for which it stands; one nation, indivisible, with liberty and justice for all. Since I was a small boy, two states have been added to our country, and two words have been added to the Pledge of Allegiance: Under God. Wouldn't it be a pity if someone said that is a prayer, and that would be eliminated from schools, too? Red Skelton

Sadly I think he got everything ringt except the "indivisible", for I am certian we are on a course for another time which will try men's soul's.

In a time of deceit telling the truth is a revolutionary act.
What we are witnessing is a good, old fashioned coup d’etat by a group of dedicated communists who have planned this since the 1960’s, if not before.
We must realize, and understand that we are in the fight of our lives here. We are fighting for the very existence of America. For her very soul.
In the end, we will either be victorious, and save America, restoring the rule of law, and the Constitution, or America will fall into the depths of communist hell. America’s shining light of freedom, a light that has inspired the entire world for 233 years, will go dark forever.

Government without limits is a tyranny.

Constitution – lays out in plain English that our federal government is to be one of limited, enumerated powers – not the nearly unlimited, unchecked one that it has become today.

No free man shall ever be debarred the use of arms. The strongest reason for the people to retain the right to keep and bear arms is, as a last resort, to protect themselves against tyranny in government.

First, guard the freedom of ideas at all costs. Be alert that dictators have always played on the natural human tendency to blame others and to oversimplify. And don’t regard yourself as a guardian of freedom unless you respect and preserve the rights of people you disagree with to free, public, unhampered expression.

So, let’s analyze the basic forms of government. They are, Monarchy or Dictatorship ruled by one, Oligarchy ruled by a few, Democracy ruled by the majority, Republic ruled by law, and Anarchy which is ruled by no one

These calculating anarchist work to break down the existing government with rioting, killing, looting, and terrorism. Tragically, the people living in such chaos often go to those best able to put an end to it and beg them to take over and restore order. Who is best able to put an end to the chaos, the very people who started it? The anarchist who created the problem then creates a government run by them, an Oligarchy, where they have total power. This is exactly what happened in Russia that led to Lenin taking total power and in Germany where Hitler’s Brown Shirts created the chaos that brought him to power.

Democracy - majority opinion rules.

What about Republic? Well that comes from the Latin, Res, meaning thing and Publica, meaning public. It means the public thing, the law. A true Republic is one where the government is limited by law leaving the people alone.

Many Americans would be surprised to learn that the word Democracy does not appear in the Declaration of Independence or the U. S. Constitution. Nor does it appear in any of the Constitutions of the fifty states. The founders did everything they could to keep us from having a Democracy.
In every case, they ended up with mob rule then anarchy and finally tyranny under an Oligarchy. When government power grows peoples’ freedom recedes.

Despot
1. a king or other ruler with absolute, unlimited power; autocrat.
2. any tyrant or oppressor.
Despotism-ruled by a tyrant or oppressor

The individual is handicapped by coming face to face with a Conspiracy (Communism) so monstrous he cannot believe it exists. The American mind simply has not come to a realization of the evil which has been introduced into our midst.”

Give me four years to teach the children and the seed I have sown will never be uprooted. - Give us the child for 8 years and it will be a Bolshevik forever.”—Vladimir Lenin

I'll bite ....

I've occasionally pondered the words "Free Republic" because of their seeminly contradiction.

I'm 62 and I never looked up the definition for 'repunlic'. I always understood the word to be a sort of reflection of the public .. a re ... public.

Awww hell ... I don't want to get into this after all ... I've had too much to drink to compose ... I'll try again tomorrow.

A republic means “out of many, one”. It means that chaos is averted because periodically, we the people decide whom to send to the center to tell the center what the periphery want.

A republic means that we revere and adhere to the precepts upon which the nation was founded. All of them. To the letter.

Our Constitution does NOT evolve. It simply adapts perfectly to every new socio-politico-historico-techno reality. That is the genius of the Constitution. It transcends time and circumstance.
