President Barack Obama’s address to Congress this evening was moving along fairly smoothly until he pledged that there was nothing in the legislation that would provide health care to the millions of illegal immigrants residing in the nation.
A cry of “You lie!” was audible from the Republican side of the aisle. The Associated Press reports that the heckler was South Carolina Republican Rep. Joe Wilson.
“It’s not true,” the president responded to the outburst, while House Speaker Nancy Pelosi, seated behind the president, offered her mother-of-five glare towards the Republican side of the chamber. First Lady Michelle Obama was seen shaking her head from side to side.
While lawmakers may have become accustomed to that kind of language during the contentious town hall meetings in August, Wilson’s outburst was uncommon for a joint session of Congress, where decorum usually reigns.
A spokesman for Wilson did not immediately return a request for comment.

Oh, I would have given much to see/hear this live!!! I don’t ever tune in to the Demagogues spewing propaganda, but this would have been such a delight to capture that moment in my brain at the instant it occurred.
My favorite post-speech comment so far is the loathsome Dickie Durbin whining that “most Americans” expect the POTUS to be treated with continual respect...... yes, these vicious charlatans can say stuff like this after all the years their most depraved attacks on Pres. Bush, our troops (all the Nazi and concentration camp comparisons, countless nasty slurs, etc.). Durbin and Pelosi are two of the worst, yet now they will go on and on about how terrible it is that Obama’s recitation off the teleprompter was disturbed by a little “speak truth to power” that the left claims to value.
I agree. On the other hand, I can see where a conservative with the same name as Valerie Plame’s husband might tend to be cranky.
