WASHINGTON — A White House panel of independent space experts says NASA's return-to-the-moon plan just won't fly.

The problem is money. The expert panel estimates it would cost about $3 billion a year beyond NASA's current $18 billion annual budget.

"Under the budget that was proposed, exploration beyond Earth is not viable," panel member Edward Crawley, a professor of aeronautics at MIT, told The Associated Press Tuesday.

Scrape healthcare overahaul instead of opting for a less expensive reform and you would have the money for another possible moon landing plan.

Better yet, scrape all the money Barry is giving to special interest groups such as ACORN, etc. and there would be tens of billions freed up. =.=

Direct 3.0 said they could do it within the specified budget. But the commission added secret sauce and bulked up their estimate. We should have abandoned the stick (Aries 1) a year ago when the thrust oscillation and lack of lifting power became obvious. If we had pulled the plug then we would have had enough money to build Direct.

He's gotta keep pouring money to the looters.

If things move any further to the left I just may do my version of “going Galt.”

Its really short term thinking on the libs part...if they could make it cost effective, they could send all us sick seniors to the moon. Those that died on the way could be jettison into space, strap a satellite to our butts and have more communication satellites in space...Better dumping place than Florida.

Foregone conclusion. The only purpose of this committee was to give Zero cover to kill the space program. He needs the money to pay others off.

This decision is really a shame ...

1. NASA has some of the best emerging technology around in power storage, solar & wind ... which should assist our clean technology efforts

2. NASA has a track record of getting their technology into corporate hands and into new devices for all of us

3. You really cannot call yourself a superpower a couple years from now, when you no longer have a manned launch capability

But, as several posts have already stated - you consider who is POTUS, and the fact that major NASA sites sit in convervative non-Zero zones, and you can triangulate the answer without a calculator.

At the end of the day, it took Kennedy to build it, and Zero to wreck it.
