Val is part of the Olympic committee for Chicago.....Coincidentally she, the Obamas and the others in the hood will profit from the sale of their property to locate various Oympic facilities on or near their properties.....Somewhere there is a list of all that will profit from the Olympics in Chicago....It sounds like a party list from the WH.

[... Does Glenn know if Jarrett paid all her Chicago property and income taxes...and her federal taxes?...]

Glenn has a lot on his plate, perhaps there is a
FReeper on the “inside” who could investigate this.

Send this question to your lists.

I will send it to Glenn.

According to the Cook County Assessor’s website, the Chicago home of four-term Democrat Congressman and likely new White House Chief of Staff, Rahm Emanuel, doesn’t exist...there seems to be no public record of Emanuel ever paying property taxes on this home.
on 11/07/2008 This post removed due to Cook County Government Intimidation

According to the Cook County Assessor’s website, the Chicago home of four-term Democrat Congressman and likely new White House Chief of Staff, Rahm Emanuel, doesn’t exist. While the address of 4228 North Hermitage is listed as Emanuel’s residence on the Illinois State Board of Elections’ website, there seems to be no public record of Emanuel ever paying property taxes on this home.

The Cook County Assessor’s and Cook County Treasurer’s online records indicate Emanuel’s Chicago neighbors pay between $3,500 and $7,000 annually. However, Illinois Review has been unable to locate any evidence that the former Clinton advisor and investment banker is paying his fair share of Cook County’s notoriously high tax burden.

Why wouldn’t 4228 North Hermitage property owners Rahm Emanuel and wife Amy Rule pay property taxes?

One reason may be because Emanuel and Rule declared their 4228 North Hermitage home as the office location for their personal non-profit foundation called the “Rahm Emanuel and Amy Rule Charitable Foundation”. As the non-profit’s headquarters, their home could be exempt from paying property taxes.

In January 2007, USA Today reported on Emanuel’s foundation:

The Rahm Emanuel and Amy Rule Charitable Trust was formed in 2002, when the Chicago lawmaker was first elected. The former Clinton White House aide and his wife, Amy Rule, are its only donors. Emanuel was an investment banker after serving in the White House.

The trust reported having $2,900 on hand at the end of 2005 after receiving $34,000 from Emanuel and donating more than $31,000.

During the past three years, Emanuel’s charity gave nearly $25,000 to the Anshe Emet synagogue and school [a private school that the Rahm/Rule children attend]..., and $15,000 to the foundation run by former president Bill Clinton. It also gave $14,000 to Marwen, a Chicago charity that provides art classes and other educational help to low-income children. Rule is on Marwen’s board.

Emanuel’s 4228 North Hermitage home is one of the largest in the neighborhood, with a side yard that appears to be a vacant lot, making the Emanuels’ property the largest portion on the block.

Other North Hermitage homes on Emanuel’s block are valued in the $500,000 plus range. According to Cook County Treasurer’s website, the Chicago owners of nearby 118 year old 4222 North Hermitage pay almost $6800 annually. The family at 4224 North Heritage pays $6000 each year in property taxes.

President Elect Obama - himself a connected, Chicago insider who has benefited from questionable land deals - may find it difficult to explain why his very own Chicago-based chief of staff doesn’t pay property taxes like the “little guy” he claims to represent. Or perhaps allowing his wealthy friends to avoid taxes is part of Obama’s trickle down redistribution economics. It’s certainly the kind of “change” we Illinoisans can believe in...since we’re quite familiar with it here in the federal indictment land of Daley, Blagojevich, Madigan, Jones, Cellini, Rezko, etc., etc.

38 of my law clients have city biz: Burke - Alderman held 34 stocks that each made at least $5,000
Chicago Sun-Times (IL) - Saturday, May 3, 2008
Author: Fran Spielman, The Chicago Sun-Times

Ald. Edward M. Burke (14th) lost eight blue-chip clients last year, but replaced them with 10 new ones and still has 38 law clients that did business with the city or other local government agencies, according to his annual ethics statement.

In addition to his booming law business, the City Council’s Finance Committee chairman also had another banner year for investments in 2007.

For the second straight year, Burke reported having stock in 34 companies that produced at least $5,000 in income last year. That’s twice as many such stocks as he held two years ago, when Burke unloaded his Wal-Mart stock just before the City Council approved the big-box minimum wage ordinance subsequently vetoed by Mayor Daley.

Several big-time players disappeared from Burke ‘s client roster as the economy turned downward. They include: Admiral Heating & Ventilating; Centrum Properties; Dominick’s; Fitzsimmons Surgical; K-Five Construction; the Pittsfield Building; Prairie Material Sales, and WBEZ Alliance.

But Burke more than made up for the loss by gaining 10 new clients that do business with the city: Albertson’s; Chicago Journeyman Plumbers Union; Imperial Realty; Marvel Group; Seaway National Bank; Standard Bank & Trust; Walgreens; Walsh Construction; William Wrigley Jr. Co., and Zemsky’s.

Burke is Chicago’s most powerful alderman and the husband of Illinois Supreme Court Justice Anne Burke .

He has stated repeatedly that he does not represent any of his clients in their dealings with City Hall. His firm specializes in representing clients appealing property taxes before the county.

Eleven years ago, the Chicago Sun-Times ran a series of stories detailing the alleged conflicts between Burke ‘s position as Finance Committee chairman and his private role as a lawyer.

The newspaper disclosed how Burke used a rare parliamentary maneuver to change the record of four past Council votes involving his airline clients dating back as far as seven years.

In November’s only Supreme Court race, Justice Ann McGlone Burke of Chicago, a Democrat, was retained. She did not face an opponent, perhaps because she is a highly rated jurist. Or perhaps because her husband, veteran Chicago Alderman Ed Burke, controls all judicial slating in Cook County.

Most of America thinks Mayor Daley runs Chicago. Those on the inside know that’s not the case. The man who runs Chicago from behind the scenes, since the early 1990’s, is Alderman Ed Burke,Chairman of Chicago’s Finance Committee.Burke went from being an errand boy for Alderman Roti to the most powerful elected figure in the state of Illinois. In a corrupt state like Illinois, the guy with the most money in his campaign fund is the man at the top.In Illinois,it’s not Chicago’s Mayor Daley or Governor Blagojevich but Alderman Burke.

...The much-conflicted alderman says he meant to sit out the vote. He’d even sent a letter to the Chicago Board of Ethics in August 2003 saying he would abstain from any Council votes on Rezko’s plan to put as many as 5,000 homes and stores on a 62-acre site along the Chicago River at Roosevelt Road.
But then Rezko’s project came before the City Council on March 31, 2004, and Burke cast his vote — in favor.
“An error occurred,” the alderman said in a written response to questions, “and Rule 14 was not invoked.”
That would be the Council rule under which aldermen are supposed to abstain from a vote when they have a conflict of interest.
Of course, it’s up to the alderman who has a conflict to invoke the rule.
Burke’s legal work for Rezko’s Rezmar Corp. is referenced in records on the 62-acre site Rezko wanted to develop with $140 million in city subsidies. The project fizzled, and Rezmar sold the land...

JARRETT UNMASKED Jarrett held several Chicago City Hall jobs under Mayor Daley, then was commissioner of the Chicago Transit Authority.......

As they say in Chicago---once a commissioner always a commissioner. Jarrett's probably still collecting multiple city salaries, bonuses, tax-deferred annuities, and several city and state pensions.

QUESTION (1) Does anybody know if Jarrett paid all her Chicago property and income taxes...and her federal taxes? (2) Someone mentioned that Jarrett is a slumlord. Has anyone seen her properties? (3) Did Jarrett take HUD money and use it elsewhere (not to improve the property used to obtain gov't funds)?

###

October 21, 2006
BY TIM NOVAK Staff Reporter

With the Daley administration pointing the finger at Ald. Edward M. Burke for the extraordinary rate of injury claims filed by patronage workers, Burke fired back Friday, saying his staff has “done the best that it can” to prevent abuse and fraud.

“There is no excuse for anyone who is trying to abuse the system,” said Burke, chairman of the City Council Finance Committee, which processes and pays all workers compensation claims filed by city employees.

“I have confidence that the staff of the Committee on Finance has done the best that it can in an admittedly very difficult system,” he said. “If somebody has a better way to do this, then I welcome that information.”

Burke’s comments came amid a Chicago Sun-Times investigation that has found:

• • One in five patronage workers named on a secret clout list kept by Mayor Daley’s then-patronage director filed workers compensation claims, an injury rate far greater than any occupation tracked by the federal Labor Department. Those claims have cost taxpayers more than $38 million.

• • Half of those patronage workers filed at least two injury claims, with a few filing a dozen or more.

• • An estimated 91 workers have been cleared to return to work but are sitting at home, collecting disability checks — sometimes more than $40,000 a year — waiting for the city to find them a less physically demanding job. Many have political connections.

Unanswered questions

This was Burke’s first comment on the Sun-Times investigation. He was interviewed at an unrelated public event.

Rather than meet with reporters in recent weeks, Burke’s staff asked for a list of written questions, which the Sun-Times submitted Sept. 18. Burke’s staff haset to respond.

As part of those written questions, the Sun-Times asked Burke’s staff to discuss any investigations they conducted to determine if the employees were really hurt, why employees remain on paid disability leave for years while their cases languish, and to identify the law firms Burke has hired to defend the city.

Burke’s committee settles most workers compensation cases with the employees and their attorneys, presenting the settlements to the Illinois Workers Compensation Commission for approval. The Finance Committee has overseen workers compensation claims since 1913.
