Van Jones & Obama's "Centrism" (Jonah Goldberg)
The Corner ^ | 6 September 2009 | Jonah Goldberg

Posted on 09/06/2009 3:04:46 PM PDT by SE Mom

I just watched David Axelrod, the top ranking political advisor in the White House, and Robert Gibbs, the President's spokesman on "Meet the Press" and "This Week" respectively. Neither of them was willing, even after repeated questioning, to offer a single negative word about Van Jones. Not one word. A 9/11 Truther and defender of Mumia-Abu Jamal is not radical enough for this White House to distance itself from the man in any way. Again and again, this White House has been offered chances to condemn the man's views and they have willfully and quite deliberately refused.

Compare this to the controversy over Lani Guinier, President Clinton's nominee to run the civil rights division at the Justice Department. When her views came to light, president Clinton disavowed her. "This has nothing to do with the political center," Clinton insisted, "This is about my center." Who would have guessed that there's a case for saying Bill Clinton's center had more intellectual integrity than Barack Obama's?

Now, there's reason to believe that Clinton was lying when he said he was unaware of her views when he picked her, but at least Clinton understood that he couldn't claim to be a centrist and associate himself with her views if they became widely known.

Van Jones' views are now widely known. And as far as anyone can tell reading the newspapers this morning or watching the Sunday shows, this White House and this President have nothing but praise for Jones and think he's a fine, self-sacrificing, public servant who simply took one for the team.

I can't think of a more succinct, discrete, example illuminating why Obama's claims to centrism are a fraud.

Update: Oh and the conversation between Tom Brokaw and Tom Friedman about the lessons of Van Jones was a complete scandal. One of Friedman's key take-aways from this whole affair is that too many people will self-censor themselves so they can get government jobs. What a tragedy that fewer people will support cop-killers and anti-American conspiracy groups because of poor Van Jones chilling effect on the culture.

Oh, and listening to Friedman and Brokaw disparage the internet as a useless news medium, makes them sound like cranky old monks lamenting that flash-in-the-pan printing press.

Though we've had a good deal of post-jonesin' today- this seemed worthwhile to add.

The comparison between Clinton and Obama made by Goldberg is salient.

It is utterly amazing. 2 supposed US “journalists” sat around and did not ever actually cover any of the quotes and video clips on Jones Glen Beck broadcast. Instead they mindlessly regurgitated the propaganda lines of the White House!

Hah! No doubt the Clinton Gang was bad news.

But this guy- he’s in an entirely different category.

The Commissar Files

He should be asked directly for his views on socialism, Marxism,
and Communism to see if anyone thinks he's a centrist after that.

-11bama's plan to move to the center:

Pick up extreme far left czars, and then when they are uncovered and bussed under, -11bama magically appears centrist.

Can't Help Lovin' That Van Of Mine

Oh listen sister
I love my Mister Van
And I can't tell you
Why there is no reason
Why I should love that Van
It must be something
We radicals have planned

A 9-11 Truther
He blames the whites
A champion of minority rights
Can't help lovin' that Van of mine

Tell me he's commie
Liberty is his foe
Tell me I'm crazy
Maybe I know
Can't help lovin' that Van of mine

The path he paves
Reparations for slaves
Redistribution of wealth
Free Mumia and free health
Taking control via stealth

He can come home
As late as can be
The White House without him
Ain't no home to me
Can't help lovin' that Van of mine
Can't help lovin' that Van of mine.

"Neither of them was willing, even after repeated questioning, to offer a single negative word about Van Jones. Not one word."

Do you know what this is about? It's not a political or ideological stance. This reflects Obama's one true fear. The fear of being called a sell-out. He talked about this in one of his books, where he said he sought out the Marxist professors, the Latino and black students. He didn't want to be caught hanging with the White kids and be called a sell-out. At this point, attacking Van Jones, when he knew perfectly well what he was all about, would be selling out in Obamaland.

That's why there's no criticism of Van Jones. Plus, Van Jones is Obama. There's no difference between the two.

And what does that tell you.

Wake up they are all alike in this mess.

They ARE what they ARE! Half the country knew it. The other half are just beginning to shake off the effects of the cool aid.

Way too good for this Brer-Fox-talkin’ Eli. I’ll never hum the song again without thinking the new lyrics. Better than DuBose & Ira.

It’s true- they are cut from the same cloth.

Frightening. One of them is at least gone from the White House (except for behind the scenes) ..the other one we have for 3.5 years.

The more I read Jonah’s articles the more I like and respect him. He has a regular column every Tuesday in the LA Times. I wonder how long they will keep him around.

They vetted him thoroughly, and in fact went out of their way to recruit him “we’ve had eyes on him a long time”.

He fit RIGHT IN with this administration, and the rest of the “Progressives” that now control the Federal Government. And Howie Dean saying “he’s a great loss” tells you that it isn’t only the Obama administration. The whole slew of radicals running the Demodog party is there with him.

Progressive is code for Marxist. I hope that the bulk of the Democrat party wakes up now. Most of them do NOT want our country to go that way.

Time to take our country back.

I actually wanted to punch out Friedman, and I’m not a violent person. But his slimy spin made me so furious, I physically wanted to feel his nose crushed under my closed fist. I haven’t been that mad at the TV in a long time, believe it or not. What a sleazy worm of a human being. Axelrod looks very sleazy himself.

Hell, this whole bunch from Emanuel to Geithner reek of evil, suspicion, conspiracy and treason. What a despicable group of human filth.

McLame was an idiot, but I hope all of the people who stayed home and let Obama be elected president are STARTING TO UNDERSTAND why we begged you and begged you to support McLame in the election. We didn’t like the Rino idiot. We were playing defense. Now all of you who allowed Obama to be elected have made our jobs 100 times harder. Reminds me of the saying, “The only thing necessary for the triumph of evil is for good men to do nothing.” Thanks for nothing, all you who stayed home or voted third party and let Obama be elected president. You should be proud of yourselves.
