GOP uses Jones to launch czar revolt By: Lisa Lerer September 4, 2009 06:19 PM EST
Republicans who have spent months criticizing the proliferation of czars in the Obama White House have finally landed a major punch.
Over the past few weeks, White House green jobs czar Van Jones has been accused of being a communist, an old lecture video showed him calling Republicans aholes, and hes been connected to a Sept. 11 conspiracy group.
With that type of paper trail, Jones would have trouble surviving a Senate confirmation.
But his czar status allowed him to skip this step: Many of the high-level White House policy advisers dont require Senate confirmation for their posts. And while liberals have hailed Jones as a pioneer in the green jobs movement, critics have labeled him a radical and hes become a liability for a White House that doesnt need another distraction.
On Friday, Republicans began calling for his resignation and asked for a public hearing into how Jones slipped past the White House vetting process. And White House Press Secretary Robert Gibbs on Friday avoided addressing the Jones controversy directly, referring reporters back to a Jones statement apologizing for his affiliation with the Sept. 11 "truthers."
The Jones debacle shows how czars dozens of powerful problem solvers tapped to tackle some of the thorniest problems facing the country could continue to cause problems for the White House. By some counts, the Obama administration has about 30 czars a term used as shorthand for long, wonky titles such as Joness Council on Environmental Quality's special adviser for green jobs.

"President Lyndon B. Johnson tasked a series of White House advisers to handle various aspects of World War II in the early 1940s."
Aren't we blessed with about 30 of these apparatchiks?
No blondes or redheads in that crowd. Do we see a pattern?
Actually it is a very favorable article to the GOP. You can’t recognize objectivity when you see it.
Well, I heard that every December 7th he'd get bombed with Pearl Bailey.
I think its time to do away with the czars altogether. Our government has no place for officials who are unaccountable to anyone.
Lets roll!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
The moral of the story...
Don’t Mess with Beck.
Its a fair question. “Since we now know that Van Jones is a whack-job, exactly who was it that vetted him, who asked for him, and who gave him the White House seal of approval?”
The answer is obvious but it would be fun watching the Dems squirm a bit.
Glenn Beck.
Doing the work the republicans don’t want to do and never would have the courage to do on their own. It took YOU alone. Pubbies should be ashamed that as a group they can’t do SQUAT or WON’T do SQUAT but you as a true patriot and someone who was tired of taking the crap decided to stand up for America and the rest of us. Great job Glenn. You
hit it out of the park and have the respect of many which you did the old fashioned way...you EARNED IT.
Now go home and have a great Labor Day Weekend with your family.
Thank you!
Jones did not “slip through the WH vetting process.”. Damnit. Wake up! Jones = Obama. BHO has just kept his mouth tight to be “electable” (i.e. saleable by the MSM)
I might have missed that. Still, Glenn considers himself an "Independent". But in truth, he's an American. That's good enough for me. As for me, I'm a small "r" republican - Big "C" Conservative.
I'll stand with that independent American. The one who's doing yeoman's work in bringing all this to light.
LOL History challenged!
Has Van Jones been fired yet? The longer this goes on, the worse for Obama.
Publicly, the GOP wants Van Jones to resign, but privately I think they want him to stay on as long as possible.
He is just going to be a punching bag for the Republicans from this time out.
Like "new math," we now have "new history."
Glenn Beck launched this revolt, and last time I checked, he’s not a favorite son of the GOP.
That’s OK...the GOP are not favorite sons of the citizens of this good country either. I think we are on the best side of the coin.
The clear and present danger Obama’s czar brigade constitutes is that he has built a shadow government unelected by and unaccountable to the people, and able to usurp Congress.
No granny under the bus?
