(CNN) -- Could George W. Bush or some of his top aides end up behind bars?
It's extremely unlikely, but the Obama administration is taking its first steps along a path that could lead in that direction, with the investigation of Central Intelligence Agency interrogators involved in the war on terror.
"You don't know where these things are going to end up," former CIA agent Peter Brookes told me. "They could go to very high levels in the government."
The probe will focus on whether interrogators exceeded their instructions and broke the law when, for example, they choked a prisoner until he lost consciousness or threatened another one with a gun and a power drill.

“An honest evaluation of the Bush years can lead to a growing base for conservative values.”
Exactly. That has to happen if the GOP is going to return to conservatism. Of course, that’s not the kind of “Republican Party” many desire. They LIKE the moderate squishes.
Someone keeps voting for people like Graham, after all.
So, dishonesty will continue to prevail. We’re just seeing that on a larger scale with the entire media keeping an honest evaluation of *Obama* from getting an airing.
It’s funny, but Bush arguably did more for the Dem agenda than Clinton, yet they hated him for it. No one can accuse a liberal of being smart, I supose.
And I am completely and thoroughly conservative.
The "cult of personality" garbage is a weak attempt to belittle people who don't get caught up in your irrational rage.
I don't hate anyone as much as you hate George W. Bush. I feel very sorry for your misdirected rage. I know you feel some deep seeded need to mischaracterize those of us who respect him (there are more of us than there are of you) even though we don't defend his every policy, because you are clearly insecure in your beliefs and can't voice them without attacking.
I guess the difference between you and me is that you are emotionally needy and I am very secure in who I am, and what I believe.
So you can attack me all you want, and it rolls right off because it is nonsense. It obviously is therapeutic for you to make silly accusations, but it really doesn't hurt me. It just makes you look desperate.
I'm on the side of conservatism and the Constitution.
I'm not sure what side you're on because of your need to attack people like me. It's bizarre, IMO, and I don't know where it's coming from.
I can think of nothing more counter-productive with the wholesale assault on our Constitution and everything we hold dear, for people like you to divide and cause dissension on something we should ALL be in one accord about.
If we don't hang together, then we will all surely hang separately.
Don't try to hang me, eleni. Hang with me.
Actually, I’m considering a transfer to Houston. It’s the first opening my company has had in Texas, so I think I’m going to go for it.
My sincere apologies for anything that I have said here that has been hurtful. (I'm sure some things have been, and I'm sorry).
I really truly believe that if we fight each other, we lessen our chances of beating this evil enemy, and we can't afford to do that.
That of course explains why he being the liberal politician that he was...hung in there, fought the war on terror and kept the Homeland safe for eight long years despite the constant character assassination he underwent 24/7!
Plus...you know, in those same 8 years, somehow I fail to remember George W trying to gain control of the internet in order to shut down any & all dissension talk...no, instead he said that was what made out country what it was, the ability to openly disagree with your government.
Good thing for you and all the other sorry ass purist so called conservatives that throw him under the bus every chance you get, huh?
Makes me think you're trying to gain favor with current Communist-in-Chief with your everything is Bush's fault garbage!
Can you imagine them having Bush on trial and all of a sudden there is a devastating 911 like attack? You want to talk backlash.LMAO!!
My sentiments EXACTLY.
Obama doesn’t like white presidents.
CNN should move its headquarters to Venezuela. What a garbage network. At the rate their going Fox is going to put them out of business. Keep it up Commie News.
Let me assure ALL you liberal F***tards out there: it WILL NOT happen...I promise you.....
Hope you don't mind humidity.
“That of course explains why he being the liberal politician that he was...hung in there, fought the war on terror and kept the Homeland safe for eight long years despite the constant character assassination he underwent 24/7!”
Tell that “Homeland safe” stuff to the 30,000 victims of illegals on his watch. Oh, wait.. Those good-hearted “citizens” whose family values don’t stop at the Rio Grande.... The very name “Homeland Security” sounds ominous and not in a good way. It wasn’t needed and just made the government bigger. We already have the DoD. The very JOB of the US Army is border defense. That’s why we have an Army. Can’t let national security get in the way of every Juan and Achmed who wants to come kill us, right?
Finally, after caterwauling by conservatives and other America-first folks, they sent the Guard to the border. Only problem is they were ordered to RETREAT if faced with armed men crossing our frontier. Some “Homeland Security” that was.
He didn’t do anything about Saudi involvement/funding in 9/11 or other attacks. He funded al Fatah. He allowed Islamic constitutions in both Iraq and Afghanistan. He turned the war into some Wilsonian nation-building exercise.
“Plus...you know, in those same 8 years, somehow I fail to remember George W trying to gain control of the internet in order to shut down any & all dissension talk...no, instead he said that was what made out country what it was, the ability to openly disagree with your government.”
So, because he wasn’t as liberal as Obama, that makes him a conservative? Is that the argument?
“Good thing for you and all the other sorry ass purist so called conservatives that throw him under the bus every chance you get, huh?”
I don’t expect purity of ideology from a politician. What I do expect is for the head of the GOP to not grow the damn FedGov at a massive rate. I guess expecting him to follow the party platform at least a little bit was too much, right?
“Makes me think you’re trying to gain favor with current Communist-in-Chief with your everything is Bush’s fault garbage!”
Everything isn’t Bush’s fault, clearly. What is also clear is that some things are. Siding with Teddy Kennedy on several agendas WAS!
How much did ACORN and other nasty stuff cost McCain in Ohio?

You would have to be extremely foolish to think that something like this:
“they choked a prisoner until he lost consciousness or threatened another one with a gun and a power drill”
...would include a serious intrigue against a two-term president who surely has an apparatus that would be willing to protect him at great measure.
...and you voted for John McCain, right?
“...and you voted for John McCain, right?”
Nope. Chuck Baldwin. It felt good to get out of the lesser of two evils cycle.
If Palin had headed the ticket, I probably would’ve voted for her.
“Splashing on a little right wing cologne doesnt mean you stink any less than Michael Moore nor will it afford you solace when the day of reckoning arrives. Pathetic BDSer.”
Sometimes I wonder if some Republicans actually have an ideology they hold to... or is it all about winning?
