UNIONTOWN, Pa. A Pennsylvania history buff who recreates firearms from old wars accidentally fired a 2-pound cannonball through the wall of his neighbor's home.
Fifty-four-year-old William Maser fired a cannonball Wednesday evening outside his home in Georges Township that ricocheted and hit a house 400 yards away.

.....And I thought I had difficult neighbors!....
That’s what my neighbor said just before he put the house up for sale.
I’m keeping my grass well mowed so it will sell ASAP.

that ricocheted and hit a house 400 yards away If it could ricochet and still go through a wall 400 yards away, I would call that a pretty powerful cannon.... A rather unlikely scenario.
One begins to suspect that there was no ricochet ..
Nah. 1200 yards, on the bounce from a hard surface, is reasonable for a (un)Civil War cannonshot. Historical marker across the street from my house near Pine Mountain marks where a Confed general Polk got hit in the chest with a cannonball before the larger battle at Kennesaw mountain. (Not bad sniping (er, shooting) actually. He got hit by the third shot of four aimed at this group of generals by Sherman.)
But the next day, did this guy from PA leave a note on his neighbor's door, "Sorry I missed you."

When I was about 13 or so a friend and I made a cannon out of galvanized pipe. I won’t say what we did with it, but it made the local newspaper headlines and I hope the statue of limitations on destruction of property (a window) has expired after 45+ years.

One begins to suspect that there was no ricochet, and that instead Mr. Maser simply failed to check the direction of his shot. Or maybe the neighbor wouldn't turn down the music.
