When Van Jones was tapped to serve as special adviser on green jobs at the White House Council on Environmental Quality earlier this year, the appointment was heralded as a significant development for the green movement. And for good reason. A pioneer in fusing economic opportunity and social justice with environmentalism, Jones, 40, represents an important progression in our country's perception and thus our approach to combatting global warming.
At the center of Jones' vision for socially uplifting environmentalism is the creation of "green collar" jobs, a phrase he helped extend beyond advocacy and policy circles into mainstream conversation. Jones insists that these jobs not only contribute directly to preserving and enhancing environmental quality but also provide either family-supporting wages or a career ladder to move low-income workers into higher-skilled occupations.
In less than two years, Jones has risen from local grass-roots organizer to shepherd of a national movement to build an inclusive green economy one that connects the people who most need work to the work that most needs to be done. His organization, Green for All, has helped deliver on the promise and potential of his vision with real jobs for real people, especially those who need new avenues of economic advancement during these challenging times. Steadily by redefining green Jones is making sure that our planet and our people will not just survive but also thrive in a clean-energy economy.

Second, notice the article is written by Leonardo DiCaprio, noted actor, environmentalists and liberal.
Leonardo needs to stick with acting. As an environmentalist, the closest he has been to any environment is the ‘walk of stars’.
...& the 'celebs' in the I PLEDGE video....
...legends in their own minds
He did create one job: he conned someone into hiring him as a czar.
As an aside, are we to believe Leo really wrote that?
Not according to Van Jones himself. For Jones the center of the vision is the conversion of the United States of America from a capitalist society to a Communist society. That is the Jones end goal and vision. That is why he was hired by Obama who shares his values and his vision.
Perhaps we should call them “red-collar” jobs!
DeCaprio —didn’t he star in the movie, “The Beach”, in which in addition to making a movie the production company basically DESTROYED the ecosystem of a fragile tropical island?
Funny how so many of these environmentalists and libeals are really America hating communists. Also, shall we say, with under statement our frineds trhe Brits would love, how Time seems to heve done a bit less research than it should have about Van's background before it published this giga-barfer of a puff piece.
Van Jones, Communist radical, defender of a cop killer, racist, reparations seeking wealth re-distributing thief, Time top 100, POTUS appointee.
Can you believe how far they’ve gone?
Of course. One inner-city communist supported by a Hollywood communist.
Liberals always support their own.
obama appointed Jones because he is a black communist with a chip on his shoulder.......thats it.
KEEL WHITEY!!!!!!!
(Sorry, I just got carried away with excitement)
He is a self avowed COMMUNIST with the presidents ear. That in itself is bad enough! How did he get vetted with his background?
All of it unproven, baseless assertions and wishful thinking by a wanna-be communist. Green is both a cynical money making scam for the elite leftists and a weapon to cripple the (US) econcomy.
Fourth, no wonder Time's circulation numbers are in free fall.

Right...it was Maya Beach on Phi Phi Island, Thailand. The movie was “The Beach”, Fox films, 2000:
It appears that, in the production of The Beach, 20th Century Fox has essentially irreparably destroyed the fragile ecosystem of Maya Beach on Phi Phi Island, the real world locale of the film’s tropical Eden. Daily, it seems, more information comes out about Fox’s shady business practices in making this film, including bribery, spin control, obfuscation, and deception.
Two facets of the controversy seem most telling to me, and reflect most clearly the colonizing logic and sense of entitlement espoused by Fox in the making of The Beach. First, in order to make Maya Beach “look” more paradisiacal to Western audiences, Fox’s production found it would be necessary to plant the beach with coconut palms, which are not indigenous to Phi Phi Island. In order to do so, they tore up the vegetation already on the beach, the root system of which anchored the dune structures that were the center of the beach’s ecosystem. Fox promised to repair any damages they incurred during filming, and to return the beach to its natural state, a promise backed up by millions of bhat (hundreds of thousands of US dollars) “donated” to the Thai Royal Forestry Department. As the following rainy season proved, however, Fox’s cosmetic repairs failed miserably, and the sand dunes collapsed, destroying the ecosystem of the beach, and, as the sand washed into the lagoon, greatly compromising the health of the adjoining coral reef. All this so we could watch the film, see palm trees and think, “Ah, paradise.” Forgive me if I sound a bit like the worst sort of green activist (which is hardly the case: before she came down from her tree, I had nothing but scorn for Butterfly), but this seems especially heinous to me. It’s an avoidable disaster initiated by the sort of Orientalizing imaginary which structures Western notions of what an “island Valhalla” should look like, according to which Fox grossly exploited Thai territory.
Fusing economic opportunity and social justice??? Nothing but the fusion of catch-phrases with absolutely zero meaning.
“...important progression in our country's perception” will combat global warming???
This just goes to show that you don't have to be intelligent to be an actor. DiCaprio is an arrogant self- aggrandizing fool who realizes the he makes little or no difference in the scheme of things, so he writes this kind of drivel knowing that Time maggotzine will prints it just based on celebrity. Time just keeps sinking sinking sinking.
Well, I just meant that for meaningless drivel it seems well-edited. If I were an important Hollywood communist, I would have my “people” write it. But then again, we have seen examples of Einstein Babs Streisand posting screeds on her own website.
