Besieged by leaks of several closely held secrets, the CIA has asked the Justice Department to examine what it regards as the criminal disclosure of a secret program to kill foreign terrorist leaders abroad, The Washington Times has learned.
Two U.S. intelligence officials, who spoke on the condition that they not be named because of the sensitivity of the case, said the leak investigation involved a program that CIA Director Leon E. Panetta told Congress about in June and that surfaced in news reports just a month later.
The vice chairman of the the Senate Select Committee on Intelligence declined to discuss any possible leak investigations but told the Times on Thursday that a growing number of disclosures of highly secret programs, tactics and other information had caused "irreparable damage" to the U.S. intelligence community.
"They foil our attempts to carry out classified missions," Sen. Christopher S. Bond said in an interview. "They tell our intelligence community: We don't have your back; we're stabbing you in the back. Our allies ask us, 'How can we trust you to deal in classified matters in private, when the details are leaked to the press?'"
Keep an eye on this.
ping.
“CIA Director Leon E. Panetta told Congress about in June “
Leon did not, apparently, require security clearances for those attending the meeting.
Our forefathers must be spinning in their graves.
It probably was very serious.
Even if it isn’t, it’s definitely the straw breaking the camel’s back. How many times have our clandestine services been betrayed by spineless weasels on Capitol Hill?
That's a lot of lumber. Don't think the eco-nazis would let that many trees get harvested.
There has been a twisted sense of morality in disclosure for decades. Disclosing operational plans to the U.N. during the Korean War, Senator Kennedy disclosing secrets to the Soviets, etc. Why is anyone surprised that anything the CIA discloses to Congress is almost immediately leaked? If not the elected vermin themselves, it's their rotten staffers dribbling everywhere.
You’re right but not surprised at all, just darn tired of it. If a few were made examples of it might send a message to others. If the others don’t get the message we’d have at least got rid of a few that have hurt us.
Justice Department. What Justice Department? Surely they don’t mean Holder and his boys. That’s now the JustUs Department.

“EXCLUSIVE: CIA asks Justice to probe leaks of secrets”
By Eli Lake, Sara A. Carter THE WASHINGTON TIMES
SNIPPET: “If the Justice Department decides to mount a criminal investigation, it would have several potential subjects to interview, as the number of people who knew about the once closely held program expanded earlier this year. The Wall Street Journal on July 13 was the first to disclose details of the program and attributed the information to former intelligence officials.”

SNIPPET: “Jeffrey Addicott, a former senior legal adviser to the Green Berets and director of the Center for Terrorism Law at St. Mary’s University School of Law in San Antonio, said the leak of such classified information hurts U.S. national security and undermines CIA morale.
“It has a chilling effect from the highest levels to the lowest levels of the CIA,” Mr. Addicott said. “It discourages cooperation from our allies on the war on terror because it strikes at the ...issue of trustworthiness. They dont trust us. We have to remember we are in a state of war. These arent peacetime leaks but wartime leaks that have a profound negative impact on our war effort. This contributes to the enemys propaganda agenda.””

“Its definitely the straw breaking the camels back. How many times have our clandestine services been betrayed by spineless weasels on Capitol Hill?”
I think that the straw that broke the camel’s back came on Sept 11, 2001. But I certainly agree that this is a grave matter. In the late 90’s the NYT reported that the CIA was listening to Osama’s cell phone conversations, which immediately ceased. It seems to me that this may well have enabled the success of Al Qaeda’s Sept 11 attack.
The cavalier attitude of our political class toward those who put their lives at risk for our security has been out of hand for a long time. Leahy himself divulged plans for an operation in Nicaragua in the 80’s. Then there were the leaks of the NSA’s recording of suspect foreign phone calls.
Members of Congress and their staffers have been leaking to the press just for the fun of it since the Vietnam War. Intelligence agencies must be able to operate the way they did during World War II and the early decades of the Cold War.

If Congress had wished to declare waterboarding or the other specific techniques used by the CIA to be included within the law criminalizing torture, they could have done so for the past seven years but did not. This is telling, considering Nancy Pelosi was briefed upon these techniques in detail. Like the United Nations' Special Rapporteur on Torture, she is simply another in the long litany of government officials who seem to revel in their own tortuous reasoning, which invariably ends up protecting terrorists. They deserve to be ignored.") (May 5, 2009)

WEEKLY STANDARD.com: "PREENING & POSTURING Throwing those who guard us while we sleep to the wolves." by William Kristol (SNIPPET: "The dark and painful chapter we have to fear is rather the one President Obama may be ushering in. This would be a chapter in which politicians preen moralistically as they throw patriotic officials, who helped keep this country safe, to the wolves, and in which national leaders posture politically while endangering the nation's security. The preening is ridiculous, even by the standards of contemporary American politics and American liberalism. Obama fatuously asserts there are no real choices in the real world, just "false choices" that he can magically resolve. He foolishly suggests that even in war we would never have to do anything disagreeable for the sake of our security. He talks baby talk to intelligence officers: "Don't be discouraged that we have to acknowledge potentially we've made some mistakes. Thats how we learn."") (May 4, 2009 Issue)

And that just about says it all. It can be applied to Obama on so many different levels but the biggie is the basic dishonesty of claiming health care reform would be just perfect - more people covered, better quality, keep your doctor, cost will go down. The independents that have deserted him are not coming back.
It’s difficult to control a gaggle of czars, especially if they are nutcases.
Justice Dept? Is this a joke.
Criminals and traitors love AG Holder because
he will find some white people, any white people,
because he is racist, not just, ... and falsely accuse them.
That is neither an investigation nor JUSTICE.
I’m hoping the CIA will carry out its own justice, if the DOJ deliberately botches things.
I’ll take Jay Rockefeller for one-thousand, Alex.
