TROY -- The Troy Police Department said this morning it will hold its first gun buy-back event Saturday.Firearms will be taken with no questions asked, Chief Nick Kaiser said. The person turning in the weapon will receive a $150 gift certificate to Crossgates Mall.
The gun buy-back will be held from noon-6 p.m. at the Bethel Baptist Church, 2165 Fifth Ave.
"The proliferation of illegal firearms on our streets is a serious threat to the safety of our residents and law enforcement officers,'' Kaiser said.
The Rensselaer County district attorney's office will not file weapons charges against those who turn in weapons.
"One act of trust in surrendering one illegal weapon can be the foundation for mutual respect, responsibility and cooperation," District Attorney Richard McNally said.
Police said rewards may be available for any information regarding gun trafficking or possession. Calls should be made to the Troy Police Special Operations Section Tip Line at 270-5004. Callers will be asked to leave a message with a phone number.
They refuse to learn.
Well if they didn’t specify it had to be a working gun, some people could make out very nicely and not hurt their 2A rights at all.
At that price, I should probably manufacture guns just to turn them in for gift certificates.

No, it can’t.
I was just in Troy a few weeks ago. Across the street from the prestigious Rensselaer Polytechnic University is a quaint town filled with hip hop culture loving gangsters. It is breathtaking how bad it is.
Ghetto. Sad.
Where I live the police have to pay a fair price just like everybody else.
Good time to get rid of a gun used in a crime too.
When I lived there, there was a drive by stabbing in downtown. Should they do a knife buy back also?
Idon’t understand the term “buy-back”. Do these people believe the state owned the guns originally and buying them back?
you can raven 25’s all day for under $50
It only encourages gun theft, illegal gun making and permanent erasure of serial numbers prior certain key legislative dates. It’s basicaly anti/violating second amendment and another collective measure.
sounds like an opportunity for an intrepid, enterprising collector of fine metallic artistry...
My bad, there’s not really illegal guns, but illegaly bearer of those perhaps. A soul buy back would be more sound.
those who beat their guns into plows will plow for those who didn’t...
Distance to Troy, NY 1,244 mi, driving time 19 hours 36 mins.
I am tempted.
a soul was the first thing most of the target thug audience sold...
Do the cops have to pass a background check and is there a waiting period?
Can each cop only buy one gun a month too?
