(6) How to determine the origin of a message transmitted over the Internet. (page 24)

Obama wants to be able to track his enemies. Here’s another interesting section:

FUNCTIONS.—The Secretary of Commerce—
(1) shall have access to all relevant data concerning such networks without regard to any provision of law, regulation, rule, or policy restricting such access; (Page 39)

Yup. Take down a couple dozen primary nodes, and the rest of the web will turn into a traffic jam.

Methinks the designers thereof did not comprehend the total load the ‘net would have to handle; they assumed re-routed traffic would have sufficient network resources to get where it needed to go.

Imagine a major city’s freeways at rush hour - with a few well-placed total roadblocks. Oh, you’ll get home ... maybe tomorrow.

My previous post got wiped out when the duplicate thread was pulled. Before this happens, develop mesh networks in your own communities. Use 802.11b/g routers with OLSR networking. Have a functional community network that is independent of the ISP based internet connectivity. It's not hard to do. The Germans have a find "Freifunk" network between their homes. It shares connectivity to the ISPs, but also allows independent connectivity within a community. Do it now while you have access to the raw materials. TCP/IP networking was designed to be robust and capable of resisting damage and attacks.

Look up Freifunk and OLSR. That will hook you into a good starting point. The Linksys WRT54GL (Linux based) has a firmware package that supports OLSR directly. Failing that, a basic Linux box with an 802.11b/g adapter. Select an implementation that has access to the RSSI (signal strength) to include that in the routing decisions.

What they really mean here is ignoring reality and principles of law and blocking/allowing access to the network for political reasons.

Agreed, but this is easily done. The Interwebs Czar calls up the head of Comcast and says, "pull the plug, boy." And a few million dissenting citizens are silenced.

I'd like to see citizens working on developing private wireless networks, so we can continue to communicate on at least some level.
