My previous post got wiped out when the duplicate thread was pulled. Before this happens, develop mesh networks in your own communities. Use 802.11b/g routers with OLSR networking. Have a functional community network that is independent of the ISP based internet connectivity. It's not hard to do. The Germans have a find "Freifunk" network between their homes. It shares connectivity to the ISPs, but also allows independent connectivity within a community. Do it now while you have access to the raw materials. TCP/IP networking was designed to be robust and capable of resisting damage and attacks.

Great idea, but how does one do this???.....Do you have a "make your own mesh network" for Dummies version? Or some links to "how-to's" to point us non-tech people in the right direction? :)
